MTN OPS Electrolytes
Let’s take a look at MTN OPS’ new electrolyte product. What are they? Why are they needed? Electrolytes are minerals in your body that have an electric charge. They are in your blood, urine, tissues, and other bodily fluids. Electrolytes are important because they help balance the amount of water in your body and also balance your body’s acid/base (pH) level. They regulate nerve and muscle function, hydrate the body, balance blood acidity and pressure, and help rebuild damaged tissue. The muscles and neurons are sometimes referred to as the “electric tissues” of the body. We lose electrolytes as we exert ourselves via sweating and need a way to get these back into our body–and the faster the better.
Severe electrolyte imbalances can cause serious problems such as coma, seizures, and cardiac arrest. Many don’t realize how important a good balance of electrolytes really is. There are several products that most are familiar with that provide this essential mineral such as various sports drinks and gummy chews but MTN OPS has found a better way to get those into your bloodstream faster.
Quick and Easy
MTN OPS took the approach of offering powder stick packs that you can put right in your mouth to be absorbed directly into the bloodstream. They come in a in a 30-pack that includes flavors consisting of Fresh Lemon Lime, Blue Raspberry, and Fruit Punch. The price tag is $24.95 per package of 30. You can order here.
As described on their website: Electrolyte STM (Straight to Mouth) refuels and hydrates when your body needs it most. Loaded with the optimal levels of essential minerals including sodium, potassium, calcium and magnesium – these convenient straight to mouth packages help restore muscle function by reestablishing balance to your body’s water and electrolyte levels as you train, hike, or enjoy any physical activity.
Electrolyte Taste
Before even trying these for the first time, I was curious how they would taste because a straight-to-mouth electrolyte can’t be that good, right? After a good workout, I was excited to tear the pouch open and to dump it into my mouth. It kind of reminded me of eating pixie sticks as a kid but not nearly as good! I wasn’t ready for the first dump in my mouth and I quickly found myself choking as it stung my throat and I searched for water to wash it down. It did however dissolve very fast in my mouth which is good for a straight to mouth product.
I wasn’t crazy about the taste of any of the three flavors offered but found the fresh lemon lime my most preferred. It is safe for kids too, and my nine and 10-year old gave them a try. They too were surprised by the taste and didn’t much care for them. But I explained to them the benefits of taking this essential mineral and product and they found the benefit regardless of the taste.
Great Job Mtn Ops
I think MTN OPS did a good job of making this electrolyte taste as good as possible for a straight to mouth product without adding a bunch of sugar. Of course it is going to be harder to make this taste better than a sports drink but it has a much bigger advantage of getting it within your bloodstream much faster to help you recover on a much higher level. It takes affect nearly instantly which is a HUGE advantage! I just have to remind myself of that each time I dump one into my mouth and not try to take it all in one shot but a couple small pours. You can also mix this powder with small amounts of water to better the taste if you want. Just keep in mind if you do this, the electrolytes and the process of getting in your bloodstream will be lessened.
These straight to mouth electrolytes are a huge advantage for me while out hiking. They will be in my pack on future backcountry hunts. They are small and lightweight and can be taken everywhere. No needing to carry anything else with electrolytes that are not nearly as convenient. No more sport drinks or powders to mix with water. That is a benefit. I did notice increased energy and a much better rejuvenating feeling from the straight to mouth electrolyte versus that of any type of pre-made drink or gummy type chew. They earned a place in my pack for sure! Learn more and order here.
