Absolutely not! I don’t want to try another hip quiver is what I told my husband before he purchased the KUIU Archery Hip Quiver. Dead set on not wanting a hip quiver, I set out to prove to my husband it wasn’t wanted or needed.
Description
The KUIU hip quiver comes standard with the hip quiver, belt, split-compartment release pouch with phone holder, water-bottle holder, and waist pack. See it here.
The adjustable belt is sturdy and measured 1.5 inch wide and max length of 47 inches. The belt has a side release buckle and is lined with VELCRO. The VELCRO maintains the desired belt length and secures the various quiver accessories in place. When verifying the measurement, I noted that although the belt will accommodate a length of 47 inches, in my opinion, anything past 45 inches will comprise the strength of the VELCRO needed to form a loop for the side-release buckle.
The KUIU hip quiver’s arrow slots are on both sides, making it usable by both left and right-handed archers. It has one large, slanted drop pocket and two medium drop pockets, with one having a zipper closer for securing items. Two tall drop pockets, which would accommodate pens and similar sized items, line the sides. Additionally, the quiver includes three D-ring attachments and a leg strap.
Use
I appreciate the wide KUIU belt–just put on and go. I can wear it with jeans or other pants that don’t have belt loops. Previously I used the T&K angled quiver (now discontinued) and found it annoying to either always assure I was wearing a belt or have a sperate belt to feed the quiver. The KUIU quiver is sturdy and reinforced so that it does not flop around or lose its structure. I found it easy to remove and replace the arrows. The slip pockets provide ample space for my wrenches, pens, and mini clipboard. The slip compartment pouch is great for my release and wax. Additionally, I had no problem fitting my phone in the slot. I was able to fit two rain jackets into the waist pack. The water bottle holder will not fit a 32 oz bottle but will easily accommodate a 24 oz bottle.
Comparison
Since I have two other quivers available, I compared the KUIU to the following:
- KIFARU Field Quiver Deluxe
- Marsupial Gear Modular Quiver
Arrow Support
The Marsupial quiver provided the sturdiest arrow support. KIFARU and KUIU were comparable in sturdiness and arrow support.
Belt
The KUIU quiver comes standard with a belt, while the Marsupial and KIFARU belts are optional, at an additional cost. I found the KUIU belt to be very comfortable and provide support for the quiver and accessories without sagging or slipping. The KUIU and KIFARU belts that I have are similar. For Marsupial, I have the stretch web belt instead of the rigid belt, so it was not comparable to the others.
Accessories
The KUIU accessories come standard with the quiver. However, they are removable so you can add or take away, as needed. Additionally, non-KUIU accessories could be added. For KIFARU, the quiver can be purchased without (standard) or with (deluxe) accessories. Marsupial’s quiver comes with the front sewn on pocket and other accessories can be purchased separately.
Wrapping it up
Overall, I like the KUIU belt, quiver, and all the accessories. I found each accessory useful and comfortable. While I was a little taken aback that the bottle holder didn’t accommodate a 32 oz bottle, a smaller bottle is suitable for practicing at the range. I recommend this quiver to anyone in the market for a hip quiver. Not only does the KUIU Archery Hip Quiver provide everything I need but it also allows me to improvise when my kid is too tired to carry his own gear. Order yours here.
