Got back to camp late last night, so no post. At 6:00 PM, I was in position for the ambush 100 yards below the pocket Jalepeno went into yesterday.  At 7:05, a doe walked up behind me about 25 yards.  I didn’t hear her so when I moved my head to scan the hill that ol’ nag busted me.  She blew like mule on beans for 100 yards back up the draw.  Pretty sure Jalepeno was laughing then.  By 8:15, I couldn’t see my pins to shoot so I made my way back to camp under a stunning three-quarter moon.

Out glassing by 6:20 AM this morn; Here is what happened:

BTW, here is the pic of the big Swarovski ATS 80 HD I wrote about yesterday but forgot to post.  Big, clear, and beatiful I call her.  Swaro sent me a killer carbon tripod with head, but it’s a little big for the pack in, so here the big 80 HD is shown with paired with my Leupold compact tripod sporting a manfrotto head:

Robby Denning
Robby Denning started hunting mule deer in the late 1970’s, only missing one season in 35 years. At 25, he gave up the pursuit of all other big-game to focus on taking the best bucks possible. He began hunting the West on a DIY budget hunting an average of 30 days a year for mule deer. Robby loves the hunt as much as the kill and the entire process from research to scouting to hunting. He’s killed four bucks over 200 inches in the last 15 seasons, mostly on easily-obtained tags. He owns a public-land scouting service and runs a private-land outfitting business helping other hunters in their pursuit of deer and elk. Robby has scouted and hunted literally thousands of square miles of mule deer country and brings a wealth of knowledge about these experiences with him. To him, the weapon of choice is just a means-to-an-end and will hunt with bow, rifle, or muzzleloader – whatever it takes to create an opportunity to take a great mule deer. He is also the author of "Hunting Big Mule Deer" available on Amazon. Robby believes all of creation is from God for man to manage, respect, and through which to know its Creator

  1. I was 700 miles away in big grass country building fence, and saw the same stunning moon. Enjoyed a cool one on the tailgate around 9PM thinking Robby will get it done. Stay positive, I know I am.

  2. Robby, Robby, Robby. You just broke one of the cardinal rules of hunting camp. What happens in hunting camp is supposed to STAY in hunting camp………………………………
    Just don’t drink the water.

  3. I just spit my drink out all over my kitchen! Robby, that was incredibly funny in the driest of ways. Btw, please put that that hot pepper on the ground already!
