Last night, I sat in the saddle I last saw Jalapeno in yesterday.  Long shot, but only game in town.  Saw a half dozen does and fawns filter through but no Jalapeno.

Rained pretty good over night.  That Hilleberg Nallo did great.  No leaks even with no rain trenches.  Best thing is the huge vestibule lets me keep all my gear dry including this old computer.

Up at 5:10 AM, down the mountain and glassing by 6:10.  Cold front came through with the rain so probably 15 degrees cooler than yesterday.  Deer moving but never saw him.

I pulled the T-cams yesterday mid-day.  They’ve been here exactly 60 days.  He wasn’t on them but a few decent bucks showed up, including this one:

I think that is the buck Jalapeño was with yesterday.

Notice the wide one on right was taken Friday morning.  I was scouting that country within 45 minutes of that picture being taken and never saw that buck.

Sorry for the tease video yesterday.  Some of you might be wondering if I really saw him or just shot that video for “effect”.  Fair enough but if you catch up on last year’s hunt here

 Live Hunt 2013

you’ll see that he’s very tough to get on camera (like most big bucks).  Just stay with me,… you’ll likely get to see him.  For the record, I only got to see him in the Swaro ATS 25-50X x80 for about 10 seconds.  He’s seems about the same on the frame as last year, but the cheater on his right G-3 is longer.  His crown point also seems longer.  He’s bigger in the body than last year, too.

Here’s a wrap-up of this morn.

For those of you who don’t know, I’m a Bible thumper and glad to be one.  It is in part how I can stay 9 days alone in the woods—I’m never really alone.

8:55  pm  Glassed till now Only does fawns I put a Video on Rokslide homepage. See you tomarrow

Here is that video. These Vultures, for the money, do a good job.  You have to get the focus set right.  Their strong point is brightness.  Their weakpoint is edge-to-edge clarity, although not bad at all.  I like ’em and whoever wins them will, too.

Robby Denning
Robby Denning started hunting mule deer in the late 1970’s, only missing one season in 35 years. At 25, he gave up the pursuit of all other big-game to focus on taking the best bucks possible. He began hunting the West on a DIY budget hunting an average of 30 days a year for mule deer. Robby loves the hunt as much as the kill and the entire process from research to scouting to hunting. He’s killed four bucks over 200 inches in the last 15 seasons, mostly on easily-obtained tags. He owns a public-land scouting service and runs a private-land outfitting business helping other hunters in their pursuit of deer and elk. Robby has scouted and hunted literally thousands of square miles of mule deer country and brings a wealth of knowledge about these experiences with him. To him, the weapon of choice is just a means-to-an-end and will hunt with bow, rifle, or muzzleloader – whatever it takes to create an opportunity to take a great mule deer. He is also the author of "Hunting Big Mule Deer" available on Amazon. Robby believes all of creation is from God for man to manage, respect, and through which to know its Creator
