Man, school’s only been out a week and my son’s attempting to break the world record for most time on fortnight. So I finally gathered up him and a couple of his friends and loaded up the truck and headed to the hills (out of Wi-Fi range) pulled out the wall tent and said “get it set up.”

Within five minutes they were acting like they could care less about screens. Highly recommended you get the kids to the hills this summer. #fortnightsucks

I hear that. We don’t have to deal with any video games but unplugging the boy from the SG from the Marshall takes some effort nowadays. But we break free...If I’m in good enough shape to beat him up the mountain he’s not in good enough shape. If I have to chase him I’m not in good enough shape. It’s Decent system.

I didn't know what fortnight was until I saw my kids doing these odd ball dances. I asked them what the hell they were doing and they said it was something from fortnight. It's definitely time to get out of town, wet a line and sit by the campfire.

Good job. They won’t remember the Fortnight session they missed but they’ll remember the camp trip. I tell my kids they will only carry two things their entire lives: memories and character.

After hearing about Fortnight, I’m glad we never allowed it. My kids even complain about their friends being addicted to it. We limit screen time to a half hour per day max, and only after they’ve read a book for at least a half hour and done their homework, even in the summer. (We make them do additional academics in the summer.) Even with that little screen time they act like drug addicts sometimes.

Next weekend we’re going backpacking, and they will attend two week long Boy Scout camps this summer, one in MN and one in WY, all with no screen time, even while driving. Just trying to keep them off the drug.

Spending time with my kids outdoors is truly one of the best gifts I’ve every been granted. Last weekend we ran the boat up on the beach so we could make lunch. There were a few carp in the shallows splashing around so I told my girls to go catch them. At first they tried to corral them but soon found out a fish is pretty darn fast. Next came hand fishing with Cheetos, again they came close but just couldn’t seal the deal. Then they got smart and tied a hook onto a spool of line baited with a hotdog and within 2 minutes fish on! The world has changed so much from when we were young, I guess if we don’t adapt as parents and change with it, it’ll leave us in the dust!
