I'm trying to decide between these two shafts for hunting this year. I understand other manufacturers are great and that's dandy but these two shafts from Black Eagle are the ones I want to give a try. NOW for the meat and potatoes of trying to decide.... I'm shooting HOYT Defiant 34, 30" draw @ 70lbs. I'm looking to have the shafts cut at 28" carbon to carbon and want to keep my arrows flying in the 280FPS range and in order to do that I have to keep the weight of the completed arrow around 465 grains. ill be running a 125 head and 3" vanetec v max or SS vanes.

-I emailed Black Eagle asking about their spine chart being based off of having a 100 grain head and they responded that since I will run a 125 grain head at 28" length shaft with my draw weight they recommended a 250 spine shaft.

-If I chose to shoot the XImpact 250 spine ill be around 450-460 grains (depending on the outsert I choose I.e. black eagles or firenock)

-In order to stay around the 465 or a little less ill have to go with a 300 spine in the Rampage. and my finished arrow weight will be somewhere around 455 grains. if I go with the 250 rampage Itll have a finished weight around 500 grains which I don't want to do.

-my question to you all is do you think the 300 spine rampage will be just fine for me or should I definitely go with the 250 spine x impact. and also if I do go with the x impact what outsert shall I use? right now I'm shooting GT hunter xt in 300 spine with a 125 gr head and ive not had any issues with it. So it kind of threw me for a loop when black eagle said I should def shoot 250 spine.

Rampages by far. I hate the outsert system on the X impacts.

I would run rampages with brass HITS and the then foot them with a VPA flanged collar. In fact that's just what I did with this years moose arrow build. So far they been excellent.

For Reference, I'm shooting an Elite Synergy at 65lb/28" and I wanted around a 400gr arrow. I shot both at my buddy's archery shop and personally preferred the X-Impacts over the Rampage, but I'm with Trial153 and don't care for the outsert system. After shooting both, I decided to try the Spartans on a whim (Randy at Black Eagle recommended those or the Rampages for my bow setup), and because I was the first one in the shop to order them. I left them there for some people to try, and both of the other guys decided to switch it up from their Black Eagles and are changing to the Spartans already.

I shot Forge Slipstreams for a bit, and they are a weight forward arrow with tapering shaft that is vary narrow at the backend similar to the X-impacts and it seems like when shooting longer distances they were able to be pushed more by crosswinds. Just my opinion, but another reason why I didn't go with the X-Impacts.

I also built some Spartans based on BE's recommendations. I had to custom make a tool to play around with their brass inserts, but I won't bore you with all the details. Long story short, I'm very happy with the straightness, consistency, and how these things fly.

I really don't want to mess with an outsert system, think the rampage 300 spine cut at 28" with my draw length and weight will be to weak? also where do I find these VPA collars, google isn't yielding much

If you are going to run the Rampages at 28" and 300 spine you could drop down to a 100gr head. This will put you closer to your target weight and speed and will spine out just fine for your bow.

Go to VPA broadheads website. Call their number and ask for Ray. He will hook you with. I used to make all my own footings, however his are much better then anything I can make because they are flanged.

I haven't shot the X Impacts but do shoot the Rampage shafts. Very similar to your exact set up actually, Bowtech Boss @30", 70lbs. Rampage 300 cut at 28.25" carbon to carbon with the BE inserts, only with a 100 grain head. Also a 4 fletch 2.25" Vane tec Swift. Total arrow weight of 425. I tried shooting a 125 gr head, didn't try tuning anything, just wanted to compare impact points. I think they would tune fine, I could mess with it in a few days if you wanted me to....

JAKE- if your up for it and have the time that would be awesome

ORarcher- I definitely could drop down to the 100 grain range I just really want to stick in the 450-460 grain range is all.

Do the Rampages offer the weight inserts?

I did this with the Spartans and it worked out great w an 85gr Slick Trick and 30gr weight giving me about a 14% FOC. The 70gr insert put my arrow too heavy and slow with about an 19% FOC. (248fps and ~432gr). But I could have used both together to push your arrow weight requirements.
My Elite shoots awesome, it just doesn't have the speed of your Hoyt. Really wish I could get at least 280fps w a 400gr arrow!!!

Here are some pictures of the Rampages I built for this years moose hunt. I have 75 grain HITS installed and then they are footed with VPA flanged collars. They do an awesome job protecting the front of the staff from impact and lateral force. Going to run either 100 or 125 grain solids .

TRIAL153-highly interested in those VPA flanged collars....

So I bought the archers advantage program and turns out according to it that the 300 spine is actually on the marginal stiff side with all my data put in. so looks like I should be good with the 300 spine.

but also I'm trying to figure out how to make a sight tape with the program and I shoot a MBG ascent verdict and the program doesn't have that sight in its data base in setup and sight configuration. anyone know how to navigate this issue????

Got my new strings put on tonight so I tried shooting my rampages (see my above post for specs) with a 125 grain tip. I just paper tuned, didn't walk back tune or anything else. They shot a good bullet hole. Keep in mind I shoot a 4 fletch. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1458868881.616684.jpg
