X-bolt 300wsm

A few years ago I won a x-bolt I 300 wsm. I had a break put on it and set it up for my wife. Here is the problem it is heavy wood stock and all is there any way to lighten it up? I can't find anyone who makes an aftermarket stock and browning won't sell one. I'm going to have it fluted also.

That's odd to me that you think it's heavy IF its an x-bolt "hunter" wood version . The whole gun only weighs 6 pounds and 11 ounces. I thought my 300wsm "hunter" was fairly light. Only 3 ounces more than my x-bolt 300wsm "stalkers". I have 4 of the x-bolt 300wsm.
Does yours perhaps maybe have a factory laminate stock and is an Eclipse model? Its a half pound heavier.
I had a laminate stocked target model that was probably 10 pounds.

I have not weighted it with out the scope buy with it its 12lbs

Have you called McMillan? They are very helpful, I don’t know if they offer a stock or not but they might know who does.

Sheeze it can't be the standard Hunter model then.
Does she need a round as stout as the 300wsm?
If not and she isn't really tall for a female, you may be better off buying her a 6 pound micro midas in 7mm-08, 6.5 Creedmoor or 308 and selling what you have.
Post a picture of the rifle if you get a chance.
I have a spare wsm synthetic for an a-bolt II but not for a x-bolt.

Yes I might be a little big but she shoots it awesome and with the break the recoil feel about the same as her 270 win. Yes it is an x-bolt hunter I just looked at the box I didn't feel like opening the safe. I won this rifle probably 8 or 9 years and finally put it together.

If it's the factory hunter stock, I don't think you'll find a stock much lighter. Does your stock look like the one in this picture?

Yes that is what it looks like

There's no way that is 12lbs. Shouldn't be more than 8.5 or so with scope

My 300wsm Hunter 300wsm is 8 pounds 10 ounces and that's with 31 ounces of scope and mounts. 56mm objective 30mm tube scope with illumination.

I'd look at getting a different scope on it. And personally I think you should skip fluting it.

I will pull it out and weight it agian. Why would you ship fluting? It seems to me that would be the fastest way to get weight out

1) Because it's not the problem. The problem is that your scope and rings are several pounds too heavy. Your already trim barrel will only support a few ounces of fluting.
2) Because fluting implies an amount of coordination/time/money that will not be justified by the results.
3) Because your rifle is shooting very well right now, and you may not want to mess with the mechanical stress, harmonic changes, etc. that fluting may or may not introduce.

It is 9.26lbs rifle scope and rings. The last time I weighted it it had a sling and by-pod on it that must be my extra weight.

The X-bolt pro comes with a carbon fiber foam filled stock.
Maybe look into swapping out yours for that. I'm happy with it on mine.
