First Mule Deer hunt and have drawn a tag for Region Y. Considering hunting ares 24/25 for deer and picking up a Cow Elk Tag for 33-6 if I get drawn. Does anyone have experience with these areas? Is it realistic to kill a cow elk and mule deer in this area on a 5-6 day hunt starting October 15th? Or is that biting off more than i can chew with limited expeirence.

Man, you're bound to find a cow elk if you don't get that tag. Haha.

I would get it as a nice-to-have in your pocket, but not count on filling it, personally. Not because it would be hard to fill, but because I would prioritize the buck hunting. My 2 cents.

coming from a long time region Y deer hunter, if you want to take home a nice buck, you won't want the distraction of another tag in your pocket. there is far too much land and far too little time to try to focus on both. just my preference to focus on one animal.

Absolutely biting off more than you can chew those units are over an hour apart and you're going to need to get back in to have a chance at either animal in that region

Your title says elk area 37 type 6, but in your post you say 33 type 6. Deer hunt areas 24 and 25 overlap elk hunt area 37; but as has been mentioned are a long ways from elk hunt area 33.

Did you draw a nonresident Region Y deer license? And did you apply for a cow elk license?

Yeah I have a y deer license. Did end up getting a 37-6 cow tag and a PK Lane Permit. Figured that might be a decent shot at a cow elk if we are successful with our deer and have enough time.
