A cousin of mine is probably doing a hunt this year in region H and I may go along with him and I had a couple general questions for guys familiar with the area.

I've done plenty of research, and it looks like there was significant winter kill in 08/09 and 10/11. Have the deer recovered sufficiently from these years?

This hunt will be a non-guided DIY backcountry hunt but I'm concerned the non wilderness areas will be flooded with people...is this true for the September 15th hunt? I've seen guys recommend going later on in the season as well.

Weather- what to expect of Wyoming high country mid September? (What is the norm, not the extreme)

Grizzly bears- obviously need to be bear aware in region h but are there certain ranges that are worse for grizzlies?

How are the snow levels there this year? Any chance of getting into the high country early July for a scouting trip?

Thanks for any help

I think if we don't get a huge spring snow fall you will have no problem coming out and looking around in early July. I have never seen a grizzly in H except one in the Tetons about 6 years ago. They are around but I wouldn't worry about it too much.
The season opens on Tues I think this year. I would recommend coming out a few days before and finding a deer or several deer and sitting on them. You could wait but the season isn't that long any more so not sure what good that would do.
As far as weather you never know. The norm is warm with thunderstorms in the evenings pretty regularly. I never take a tent just a tarp if that explains it. Sometimes you just have to find some big fir trees and wait out a storm.
You should see plenty of deer and a butt load of elk

146 and 156 have a pretty good Grizzly population. I know that from first hand.

We have seen them every year we hunted there.

Second the grizzly population. Have had buddies lose there kill to a couple. Winter kill was very bad in those areas. I think they are coming back but still coming back. I hunted that region this year and saw some deer but no big ones. If it's nice weather the people are out.

I've hunted 156 for many years but haven't been back the last 2. There are definitely bears but good numbers of deer as well. The forest service has closed a lot the roads so you really need to hike in and get up to the peaks. At this time of year the deer are still up high and usually in bachelor groups. If you're in good shape and don't mind putting in the hard work you'll find the deer.
