Everybody but cnelk, seems to be overlooking the fact that 2 points in the regular draw is going to be somewhere <30% odds. Unless you do special odds are you'll not be getting a general tag. Next year 3 points won't guarantee a general tag. You'll never catch LQ unit.
That's the exact reason I'm cashing in my 3 points on a general tag. Not chasing units anymore

Honestly I'm interested in seeing how many points got burned last year with people putting in for general, I wouldn't be surprised if it's a bit easier to draw this year.

Don't think so. If you have less than 6 points you're pretty much SOL for any decent LE hunt anytime soon, unless you're willing to wait a decade. Guys in that range will never draw a top unit. I'm pretty sure many can see this and will be burning points in the <5 pool pretty quickly on general tags. Maybe combining with others with less points, but still going hunting rather than chasing what they're not going to get.

Do you guys think this will eventually backfire on Wyoming game and fish from a reduction in revenue? I know that they raised there fees, but point creep is real and now more difficult to draw for LE as well as the general for Non residents..hunters looking to other states I'm affraid..
I guarantee Idaho and Colorado will have a record year this year of license sales for elk.

Colorado might, but Idaho has a cap on NR elk tags.

The BRO Bros just went up to the counter at the Boise fish and game and picked up a tag for their camera guy..looks like Idaho has plenty of tags to spare

Last year they had tags available up until mid September. Everything sold out before the gun hunts started. Some of the capped units are already ships out for 2019. 12,815 NR elk tags for Idaho

Wy has definitely been played out. I was lucky enough to get in on the ground floor when they started points. I hunted WY 5 times in 9 years. Some was when you could get a general as a 2nd choice. Also 3 LE tags that I can no longer draw. $1300 for general tag is certainly pushing it and as we've discussing the LE tags are creeping out of reality for most. People will be looking elsewhere, but WY will always sell their tags. Just not that great of an option for us NR anymore. Well... I guess that's why I will become a resident in a few years :)

Mmmmmmm. Im sitting on 6pts with the original intent on hunting a good LE unit in the next few years but from the sounds if it, thats unlikely to happen.
I might just end up sharing my pts with a good hunting partner and hunt general.

Just putting this out there if you don't have a partner: if you decide to burn, let me know. Two friends and I are trying to hunt general on 4 pp points total.

I don't expect this change at all by WGF... Just curious how you guys see allowing nonresidents to hunt wilderness would change the point game? While general tags offer plenty of room, wonder if that change would influence even more folks to stop waiting around for LE tags.

I think it would because a lot of units are not getting applied for because you can't hunt the wilderness. Then the general application gets over applied for. Thus making general tags harder to draw. 3-4 years for general unless you pay over 1300.00 to hunt a general tag with the special draw.

The wildness guild welfare rule if it was retracted would spread out applications over more of the state. It would definitely change how some of us apply in WY

Most of the units with high amounts of wilderness are already general. Plus when it's all said and done there aren't any bull tags left over anyway. It wouldn't make any difference. I also highly doubt WY is shooting themselves in the foot since apps increased 20% last year, even with the fee increase.

The application increase may have been in response to the price change people wanting to get out while they can't and not invest more into the system. I suspect that's gonna carry over into this year And then you will see it level off.
