@ wynnchester.com. I came across this bedroll/bivy and thought it was pretty interesting. Made of military grade canvas.weight is the only drawback I see.just thought I'd share.I tried uploading photo from phone but after waiting what seemed like forever with the grey screen saying uploading file, I had to X out..any ideas why I'm having this problem uploading photos from my phone? Weight of "adventurer canvas bedroll is 4 kg +,-.

I have a canvas 'swag' that we use when car camping/hunting from a fixed camp in Australia. Mine has a foam matress and I make the bed with a sheet and quilt/pillow.

The Wynchester one looks great - a bit lighter and coupled with an exped mat and a sleeping bag could be a viable alternative to a tent, and could be an attractive alternative to gortex given its improved breathability and fire resistance. Definitely heavy, but could be very nice for horseback trekking and motorbiking, or if you want a more 'traditional' bivi.

Swags are a lot of fun for car camping, they are super fast and convenient and a great fair weather options for cowboy camping. I brought one back from AUS with me but even with heavily treated canvas it didn't hold up under continuous rain.

My DIY Gore-Tex cowboy bedroll cover....
http://s111.photobucket.com/user/Mike_in_Oregon/Projects/Bedroll Cover Gore-Tex/story

I made this for less than $100 in materials.
Sewing was super simple too.
It has served me well for a few years now.

Researched the Austin swags prior and found I didn't care for the smell of the oiled canvas tarps. And the white duck canvas cowboy bedroll covers made by the tent mfg'ers were just dust covers and not waterproof.
