Hello ya'll,
I have off work 10/31 - 11/9 and am looking to shift gears given the state of things in KY/OH.
Thinking mobile hunting Pocahontas Co, WV for deer and bears. I've spent a lot of time in Monongahela NF, but mostly around Tucker and Randolph Co... Looking for any wisdom or experiences that I can gain some knowledge from. I've read through everything I can find. I'm also not dead set on Pocahontas and am open to other counties. Looking for old burns, clear cuts, whatever you think might give me a shot at a deer or bear.
FWIW, I've killed plenty of bears with a bow and mostly not influenced by bait. I know it's a tall order in WV mountains, but I want to try. Beats working! I also understand deer density and 'trophy' potential can be a far cry from other areas. Mostly looking for big mountain woods with room to roam and decent odds at a good animal. I also am experienced in the backcountry and well equipped to pack in if necessary. I have a packraft, kayak/canoe hybrid and mountain bike as well if any of those might assist in any way.
Feel free to PM if anything specific.
Thanks!
