Nikwax Wool Wash vs Woolite vs ???.....

Kuiu sells Nikwax Wool Wash. The Nuyarn etc. labels just say use an approved wool detergent.

I imagine Woolite is cheaper than Nikwax.

I usually wash my hunting clothes in no-scent/no UV sportwash or similar products.

My questions are...

1. Do the wool detergents leave an odor on the merino, nuyarn etc.?

2. Is Woolite fine or is the Nikwax Wool Wash preferable?

3. will I harm the merino wool garments if I use my Wally World no-scent detergents on them?

4. Is there a better detergent option out there?

I do know to turn the garments inside out before washing, hand wash or use gentle/delicate wool cycle in the machine, and do not dry in the dryer.

Thanks for your help. I have searched and am still unsure of the best answers for these questions.

FWIW, I wash my Filson wool pants in Woolite in the bath tub. Same with a couple of Woolrich shirts and a Filson wool sweater. Air dry them on towels, stretch them as they dry.

I wash my Minus 33 wool tops and bottoms in the washing machine with normal detergent and dry them with everything else. I've been wearing these for going on five years now, and they are still in good shape. I wear them every day from November through February.

I recently used the nikwax wool wash and am really happy with it. No odor and a really soft feel to the wool like when it was new.

Woolite for me, air/line dry.
I do put merino wool socks and underwear in with the regular wash. Little shrinkage there isn't a problem.

I wash all my hunting clothes including my merino with Sportwash, and I even throw them all in the drier as well. I haven't seen any issues at all with any of my merino using this method. I've been using a couple sets for probably 7 years now.

i have used Sport Wash for about 20 years. i wash down sleeping bags as well as wool without issues. Plus you can buy large sizes at Walmart very cheap compared to other products.

Rock-n-Green for me. Wife used it for cloth diapers on all 3 of my sons. My oldest is 11 years old and I've been using it on wool for that long. No scent, no brightened, and natural products. I wear a wool under shirt under my work shirt whenever daytime temps will be less than 70; October thru April. Wool socks and briefs every day. I use a tablespoon of soap per load which is about 10 shirts, 10 pairs of socks, and 10 days worth of briefs. My wife's wool is in that load as well.

Wash on cold/cold and dry on ultra low (air dry). Same soap for the last 11 years

I also use this on any outerwear hunting gear if it really needs washed.
