Anybody out there still wear/own the non-merino wool products? I'm talking about the stuff like the old woolrich shirts, the thicker, itchier, non-merino stuff.

I know there are plenty of merino products out there, but the shirts all seem like base layers or so fragile and thin that the price just doesn't justify it.

Any wool fans out there?

Cant stand the stuff personally. Yep its warm but if Im fiddling around itching all the time it doesnt make for a good hunt and a good chance I will get busted because of it. I only use the Firstlite, Sitka, Merino wool here.

I wear heavy Filson wool for cold weather fishing...but I always have cotton or something on underneath it so I don't itch.

Hunting, I wear synthetics.

I have a pair of pants, button down shirt/ jacket and a zip up jacket made by Columbia. I love the stuff. It is super warm and not itchy at all. Of course I've never really had a problem with wool. I still plan on using it for really cold stand hunting in pa.

I love wool. Merino base layers and old school wool outers by several folks. Minus 33 and Empire Wool and Canvas to name a couple.

The First Lite merino for outer layers seems to be "tougher" than some of the others I've used. I had some Minus 33 t-shirts that self destructed on impact with anything. My Kanab pants and Chugach work shirt though have held up to 30+ days of hard core bush whacking.

My EWCC Camp Coat is one of the better pieces of outdoor gear I've purchased. Hard as hell to get one as they're only made to order every now and then in limited quantity but well worth the effort to get. Kevin is a one man show...a first rate one man show and his backlog proves it.

i have a pair of johnson malone wool pants that just seem right for late season still hunts. Don't think there is a better option for my needs. it's cold that time of year so i always have a base layer on consequently no itch.

Yea i have a bunch of old pendleton and woolrich wool shirts i wear often and also have some sleeping indian wool pants that get used occasionally.. The itch doesn't personally bother me anymore, i remember it annoying the hell out of me when i was a kid but somewhere along the line that went away

I wear it over merino wool long underwear. No itch problems. Only the merino touches my skin. Pendleton shirt, filson wool vest, Johnson woolen mills jacket. Cabelas legacy wool pants or Romanian field pants from sportsman's guide. Can't beat the setup for Big Woods Eastern still hunting. I will give my newly acquired sitka traverse zip t a try over the pendleton for a little wind resistance this season however and see how it works out.
