What elevation do mature bull elk usually winter in? I have seen many cow elk and mule deer this winter, but have yet to see a sizable bull. The unit I’m looking has many beetle killed blow downs and the mule deer and cow elk seem to frequent the lower lying sagebrush and aspens . What have you guys seen from experience?

Once you find them, make sure to spook and harass them as much as possible. Can’t let them rest too much during winter.

terrain and country contingent often off in secluded little pockets that get afternoon sun and in most settings won’t move too much contingent on snow depth and predators

A guy I know was snowmobiling in March several years ago and saw this bull.

The bull got caught by heavy snow and never made it down.
He died under that tree

That’s nuts.. I found some sheds at 10,000 feet in grand county last summer. There’s currently about 4 feet of snow in that spot right now so I have no idea how that elk lived up there. They’re crazy tough animals
