Hey guys, I am a new poster hear but have spent a lot of time reading posts and I really appreciate the information.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a lightweight, windproof or resistant fleece?

Thanks

How about splitting your layers to a fleece and a thin light or ultra light windproof layer? I've gone that route and love the flexibility of it. I'm a little too warm, the wind layer comes off, stuffs into a pocket and I cool down. To cold, and it's back out. @mtwarden once did a write up on windproof layers. Based upon that I purchased 2, one ultra light packable and one that's rain/ wind.

What is your goal for it? Hunting style, state and species.

I'm assuming your targeting whitetail. Most advise you'll get here is to avoid windproof fleeces. It's antithetical to layering for more active style hunts. Keep your fleece breathable and add either lightweight wind jacket or a rain jacket to cut the wind.

Excellent advice above. When I want some warmth with wind resistance I go with wool. Otherwise it is fleece and a windbreaker.

Not wind proof but close is the Kuiu peloton 240 zip up hoodie. I love it for the first hour or so of morning hunting to keep the chill away. Also when back at camp, I don’t like a puffy jacket.

Good advice above.

Another option would be a breathable mid-layer with a tough face fabric- something like the Arc’Teryx Proton lightweight hoodie or Patagonia R1 TechFace hoody. Even a Sitka Ambient Hoody.

All are fairly breathable when active, will block wind more than a grid-fleece, and shed water with moderate precipitation.

Thanks for all the input everyone. I may be a little off base here, which is why I wanted to ask. This will be for WA mountain early season. My goals are to cut the number of layers I carry while still covering steep, hot climbs in the 80s to long sits in the 30s. My current thought is a lightweight long sleeve sun hoody, a mid light wind resistant fleece, a puffer, and a rain shell. Also, I am a sweater. I have found a lot of situations during the course of the day when I am chilled due to breeze and putting my puffer or rain shell on results in sweating. Looking to cover that gap. I am interested in the Kuiu Peleton 200 to fill this gap.

Kuiu 240 is pretty wind resistant. I think this SKRE is really close but less expensive.

I like windproof fleece for some situations, like cold archery deer hunts. Not great for moving fast, but superior to alternatives for slow stalks.

More versatile setup would be a good quality, well breathing hooded fleece layer like the Patagonia R1 Air. Then add a wind shirt over it as needed.

I bought my windstopper, windproof fleece jacket at Walmart ($20.00) but I think they're finally sold-out of that design. Mountain Hardware makes a really good one and it's about $35.00.
