Can anyone suggest a thin windproof layer? I'll be treestand hunting most of the time. I think Aron suggested polartec for this but I cannot remember.

I use golf shirts that I find at the thrift shop for a couple bucks and they work for me but then I am an east coast dweller.

I'm not on the coast but we may have similar temps- I'm in Arkansas. By "golf shirt" do you mean a shirt that is 100% polyester or a dri-fit?

Want totally wind proof? Add a thin waterproof jacket like Cabelas Space Rain. Can be a bit noisy as outer layer but would completely block out wind and be quiet if a fleece or other jacket added above it.

Just picked up a Wild Things windshirt for about 62 bucks on sale. To say I was pleased with it is an understatement. Its is VERY LIGHTWEIGHT, and for what I wanted it for (cut the wind and light rain) it does that very well. I almost thought it was a joke when I unwrapped it, since its so light.

But so far it blocks the wind (cant feel any wind through the shirt), and it held up to my shower head on full blast for about a minute (completely dry underneath).

Its not super quite, but its not obnoxiously loud either (fabric noise)

been picking up some marmot driclime and fusion on e-bay . really like the fit comfort looks quality cant comment on the usefulness for blocking wind and passing vapors tho.

Just don't hike in it, lol.

Patagonia Houdini jacket. 4 oz, comes in solid black and solid grey colors for $99.00 but if you do some googling around you can find them for around 50-60 bucks. Throw that over a puffy or your merino.

Cabela's Windcrest Microfiber Pullover on sale for $20. Just use it as an underlayer with your choice of camo over the top

In a tree stand I would not go with a wind shirt. You want something quiet!

Cabelas wind blocker stuff is pretty nice for the price. Some of the thinner layers will work great for you. If money is no object sitka makes awesome wind blocking stand gear.

Wind proof stuff does not breathe well. If your hiking in a ways keep it in a pack and put it on once your in your stand to keep the damp feeling away.
