Will ATA length and brace height change when you swap out cams?

I’ve got a 2012 Hoyt Vector 32, swapped the #2 cams out for #3 cams last year and put new strings on it. Shot it for a little while and it was accurate but realized that my speed was pretty slow for what it should be.

Did some investigating recently and found that my cams are out of time and my ATA and brace heights are not to manufacture specs.

I know how to re-time the cams but is it normal to have the ATA and brace height off of spec?

When I picked it up from the bow shop after swapping the cams, the guy told me that the #3 cams changed the deflection in my limbs which decreased my poundage. Could it also be that the wrong strings and cables were installed?

You should be looking at ATA and brace according to Hoyts tune charts for that bow with those cams. Wrong strings would cause issues as well but twisting and untwisting can do a lot. They are correct about the number 3 cams pulling less weight with the same deflection limbs.

All of that is potentially the problem. The cams have different lengths and cable lengths. Brace is directly related to ATA along with max poundage. If you have a press I would pull each one out and get them in spec and the rest will probably come into spec as well. Also, ATA and Brace for most companies are usually related to one cam and draw length. It can vary plus or minus ⅛” easily. Hoyt publishes all their specs in the tube charts so I would look at what yours should be for that specific cam.

I just looked at the tune chart and my ATA is off by about 1 1/4”; chart says 32 1/4” and bow measures 31”. You think that much correction can be made by twisting/untwisting cables?

No, that much correction can not be made by twisting. It sounds like you have the wrong string set. Did the bow shop order the strings for you?

It sounds like they ordered you the wrong string set. As a shop owner I would have not been satisfied sending that bow out the door.
I havnt had any bows change that much from original spec changing a cam unless it required a string change too.
I would take it back and have them get you the right strings.

Another question, will having the wrong string set cause any damage to the limbs?

Out of curiosity, what brand did they order the strings through. The shop I used to work at dealt winners choice and it seemed about one set a month was built too long/short. They were always good about making it right though

They build their own strings in shop. I’m guessing they went with the wrong specs when building them.

My question is how the heck did they even get such an out of spec set on the bow? Should of been obvious when trying to install that they were wrong.

So I called the shop yesterday and he’s going to make it right if in fact the wrong strings were installed. Problem is I live 2 hours away from the bow shop so it will be a little while before I make my way up there.

In the meantime I thought I would try to measure the strings myself but after some research I found that to properly measure the string and cables tension has to be applied and I don’t have a way to do that. So I figured while I had everything out I would go ahead and press my bow. Everything seemed to work fine but I wanted to post pictures of it since this was my first time to press a bow and I want to make sure I’m doing it right.

What do you guys think? I’m afraid there was some minor limb twist due to the nature of how this press works but is that a big deal?

The way you pressed it is not the way you should have. The hooks at the end of the fingers should be over the ends of the limb tips.
Rotate the fingers towards the inside to capture the end of the tips.
Some minor limb twist happens especially with yoke style bows.
Good luck and stay safe. Watch some videos on how to properly use and adjust that press.

You can still measure the strings and tell if they are correct or not. Just put one end on a post and stretch it out. Adding a 100# of tension isn’t going to stretch a string more than an 1/8” of an inch if that.
And if your cam orientation is like that when not pressed they’re severely under rotated. I would bet they put strings for a #1 cam on there.
