I have the option to buy a woman's metcalf at a discounted price. The large looks like it would fit me from the sizing chart. I'm 5' 10" and 165-170 lbs. I wasn't sure if the straps would be totally different or if it was just a marketing strategy. Thanks.

Typically, a women's pack is different then a men's in more then just the size .. women's packs will typically have a thinner shoulder strap that will flare out the sides of the body quicker then a men's to go around breasts .. women's hip belts are also typically contoured differently as women have a different hip shape then men .. in saying this these may not be an issue for you as I've known guys who prefer a women's hip belt to men's as they find it more comfortable .. biggest issue may be the straps as they tend to sit a little funny on guys from what we're used to

I don't know if all these features are on MR packs though .. you might want to try on if you have the chance to first

I have used my wife's MR Stein 62 in a pinch one day. The straps are thinner and are shaped differently as gldenhwk mentioned but that was pretty much the only big difference that I noticed. I think you would be fine, I would have no problem using my wifes pack again if she would let me...
