If you can set aside Charles Post's previously expressed anti-2A views and his terrible, terrible fashion choices, this is a pretty good video. It lays out the "wild" horse overpopulation problem and the deleterious affect on native species and habitat. It would be a good vid to share with non-hunters.

Rinella had a great podcast on this issue a couple yrs ago. It really opened my eyes to the issue and how f*d the “wild horse and burro act” is. Sad state of affairs- I think more publicity is the only chance at a solution.

Yes it is. We don't have to condone his past actions to find common ground on spreading the word about the wild horse problem.

At the end of the day, which is better for hunting; sharing this video or not sharing it?

I see your point, but honestly how he handled that whole cluster was laughable.

The wild horse issue is going to require the repeal or modification of an entire congressional act....its going to take a lot more than Charles Post's artsy video. In my opinion he is a cancer for the hunting community, the end.

A congressional act starts by making the issue palatable to voters.

Ugh...great video content but I am not sure how it will be perceived by “wild” horse loving nonsense individuals who have know idea the damage the dang things do. I get a little heated with this topic as I grew up and still venture into elk/deer country that is inhabited by horses. They are not the native horse nor should they be be there. I hope this opens up some people’s eyes to the real harsh reality of them. I love horses, I just don’t like the money spent on managing them.

Too bad wolves don't like them. The wild horses I've seen are mostly slow and lazy

The wild horse and burro situation is a cluster f. You’ve got the emotional, whack jobs who think the horses are beautiful creatures that should be left alone and blah blah blah. Then you’ve got BLM who’s hands are basically tied with nothing else to do except keep them penned and feed them. Millions have been pumped into reproductive research to halt the growth of the herds, but so far nothing is effective enough to use or will be accepted by the general public. The whole thing is a massive financial burden just because people get all nostalgic over seeing pictures of them, because let’s be honest the people who would scream the loudest if the horses were removed or left to starve have never seen a wild horse. Also these people don’t realize that the current management is unsustainable and will result in the slow destruction of all wildlife through loss of habitat or starvation. /soapbox

Yep. The solution starts with changing public perceptions.

We can't get a hunting season on grizzly bears and you think the wild horse management is going to change?

Not a chance. The horse groups make the wolf and grizzly lovers look like barbarians.

You don't need to use a Berkley California idiot to make a point about the horse population. Find another spokesperson and I'd bet that you'll be more successful at getting outdoors-people involved. As it is, I wont even watch the video just because of who made it. In fact, I live in Montana and resent the fact that this jerk votes in my state, I'd like to see him go back to California and live in the crap hole that his kind created.

I didn't watch the whole video, but we must also consider the millions and millions of TAXPAYER dollars spent annually on privatized holding ranches for feral horses due to the bloated and out dated Wild Horse and Burro Act. The fee to American tax payers is in the billions collectively, IIRC. Enough to pay for and support a border wall, and then some... or to vastly support real wildlife habitat improvement and management.

If you guys want, you can buy a calendar from these idiots who put signs up around my neighborhood. They would be totally happy with all the native wildlife going extinct and always protest the BLM roundups.

Your donation is tax deductible too, how ironic is that?

I don't know anything about Charles Post but it's clear from watching the video that his message will be well received by the granola hiker crowd and even city-dwelling "environmentalists" too.

He wasn't targeting hunters with his video. He was targeting a much larger audience.

He educated people is a subtle way and said that management is needed to improve the health of the habitat, wildlife, and the horses themselves. He didn't say or even suggest what management is needed. He just said that management is needed. This is an important first step for the non-hunting public.

In Idaho there are ads all over stating that the BLM will pay you $1,000 to adopt one of the rounded-up wild horses. You just have to demonstrate you have a place to keep it and they will pay you out after you have fed it for a year.

Also, it's not well advertised but they round these things up and keep them in large feedlots (that the taxpayer is obviously paying for). There's one in Bruneau, ID that occasionally gets shut down due to disease outbreaks.

It looks like BLM 2019 budget request for horses is $66.7 million, down from $81 million in 2017. They are no longer doing birth control as it is not a cost effective management and they are not conducting round ups as they can't afford to care for more horses in off range lots.

The wild feral horse population can double in four years. This is going to come to a head in the near future.
