I have a jungle bag and have had others over the years. Not the lightest stuff out there but built to last.

I have an ultralight tule that I use for car camping. It is big, heavy, and the hood system is crude at best. It also has cold spots where there is not much lamilite insulation. Since I live in the same valley as the the shop I took it in and showed it to Jerry. He and his assistant dismantled it in front of me and told me very authoritatively that the spots where there was practically no isulation couldn’t possibly be cold spots. You can shine a flashlight through them. Good thing it was cheap. Lesson learned.

As long as you don't wanna pack them a long ways they work as advertised. I just can't give up that much space in my pack, or have something that bulky strapped to the outside. For truck camping though it wouldn't be an issue for me.

So what do you suggest as an alternative (for a dall sheep hunt)? Got a Wiggys Synthetic 15 or 20 deg bag I used on my last dall hunt but am older and fatter and looking to save some weight and space in my pack. Was looking to go the down route but think I'll stick with synthetic...

One of my first personal gear purchases when I was in the USMC Reserves in Utah in the early '90s. I still have that bag and it still keeps me warm. Not going to be the lightest or most compressible, but they are great bags.

My stepdaughter and I picked up the overstock military bags last year from Wiggys. Both bags rated to 0*, and we took them to the North Slope this past august/early Sept. Plenty warm enough for me, she got cold one night the mercury dropped to 19* and had sustained 40 mph wind with up to 50-55 mph gusts. I'm a warm sleeper, she isn't. They are big, bulky but we found them to be excellent with an insulated air pad.

I'd not wish to do a back pack trip with them, but for a drop camp or car camp I'd take it everytime.

My wiggy bag is a large/long size, and 10 years old. One of the original mil issue styles, so it’s big and heavy. Love it.

Much better, roomier and warmer synthetic bag than most anything out there. A lousy military 30 degree bag weighs as much, but isn't good to zero. What other bag is made with US produced materials? Which other bags can be put in the washer as often as you want?
