I'm pretty sure the OP is talking about the "Sour-toe Cocktail", although I only know it from Dawson City, Yukon Territory...the OP can explain it to those unfamiliar (it's his story to tell).

For ten consecutive years I did the 200+ mile (round-trip) "Top of the World" snow-machine run from Tok, AK to Dawson City, Yukon, which occurred in February each year. One year it was -50 F below in Tok when we started the run, but we made it to Dawson safe and sound that year...lots of stories about that trip.

Anyway, there were many times those years when friends of mine along with me did the toe when we got to Dawson. Needless to say, I was under heavy peer-pressure to do it, but I always held off despite enjoying significant celebration beer after we had arrived safely in Dawson.

I'm proud today to say that I NEVER did the toe!
