Who has used best spray?

Who has actually used bear spray in a self defense situation? I've grown up around black bears my whole life, and never felt the need. Been out west a week at a time for the last 5 years and haven't ran into a bear in close quarters yet, but I'm sure I will at some point. I carry a pistol religiously, but more for for the 2 legged problems than the predators. I agree as to the effectiveness of bear spray, and like the idea of not shooting a bear if there is an alternative, however i hate packing bear spray, and feel naked without my pistol. So have you ever needed to use your bear spray??

I have Counter Assault and UDAP bear spray. I have used the UDAP bear spray on a cow as in cattle before and it was disheartening to say the least. Long story short, my hunting partner and I had to pass this narrow walk way and a herd of cattle was in the way. There was 2 cows that were HUGE and probably 3 yards away from me. (They are not intimidating until they are they are up close to you and a bunch of them) As the cow looked like it wanted to run towards me, I sprayed the cow with an approx 2-3 seconds spray 2-3 yards away...... the cow did not flinch...... however my hunting partner and I got a whiff of blow back and our eyes got spicy and we were coughing for approx 20 minutes later.

It took approx 30 seconds to a minute, then the entire herd of cattle were "mooing" and stampeding somewhere. I'm sure bear spray has worked for lots of people, this is just an example of bear spray use on cattle for what its worth.

In terms of build, practically the same imo.

I have used it multiple times on free ranging bicycle attack dogs,, it has repelled vicious foaming at mouth big dogs and little ones. On the next trip down roads where I unloaded on them, magically the beasts disappeared, not sure if that is coincidence or avoidance, but suspect it is avoidance conditioning.
