Whitetail Vortex Bino Question

I’m looking at getting the Vortex Diamondback Binos. I primarily hunt whitetail timber and field edges. But down the road am looking at hunting out west. Is 10x50 way to much for whitetail hunting?

Larger than I'd want to carry. I just picked up a pair of 10x32 Diamondbacks for Alaska this fall and am very impressed with them.

When you say larger you talking about size and weight or magnification? I plan on putting them in a Bino chest pack.

Both. The 50s weigh twice as much as the 32s, and there aren't a lot of situations in which I can see that difference being warranted. Just my personal opinion.

I have Diamondback 10x42s. My typical whitetail hunt is 0.5-1mi walk with ~30lbs of gear (stand/sticks/pack) and I don't mind the weight at all. I would rather have 8x though, as 10x is pushing it to handhold steadily for me. Everybody's different so maybe 10x is good for you, but I would grab a pair of each and see how well you can handhold before deciding on magnification.

I have a Viper 10x42 and hunt in similar conditions. I don't think any more magnification is really needed for what I'm currently doing with whitetail/turkey.

I may be in the boat by myself here, but I have always liked the larger view of the 10x42's and 50's. I like the extra power of the 10's over the 8's. Granted the 8's hold steadier, but it never fails that something may be on the horizon just out of good 8 range. The weight doesn't usually bother me at all but then again, I need all the help I can get because my eyes are pitiful!! :)

First off I’m not a trophy hunted. I switched from 10’s to 8’s and am happy with it. I spend way more time hunting at home so 8s in timber for white tails is a lot better in my opinion. For out west sure there are times that more power would be fun but I can tell by frame of an animal if I’m gonna go after it.

In my opinion you are going too high in power and too large in size for your needs.

Primarily hunt VA in woods and fields and have been out west once for elk. I run the viper 10-42 and think they are perfect for my use which sounds similar to yours.

I have the 10x42 and I bought a pair of 12 power diamondbacks for my wife/my backups. I love the 10’s personally but I do hunt in west Texas. But also hunt in east Texas where it is much tighter cover. If I were to spend 70% if my time inside of the timber I’d probably want 8x but for all my hunting I’ve done 10x hasn’t felt over powered for my whitetail hunting. Actually seems like the perfect balance to me
