Have any first or second hand experience hunting the White Mount Aphe East or West?
man that's just rough damn luck, glad your better. The elk population thanks you.I had a rifle tag for that hunt last year but came down with Covid 2 days before the hunt. Covid was no big issue for me, but the requirement to quarantine during that time as serious bummer. 5 years to get the tag and couldn't hunt it. Lesson: always get the point guard.....
Worst part about it was got the Covid results at 6pm the night before Thanksgiving. The hunt started that Friday morning. Tried calling first thing Friday morning at 8 am and it was too late. Couldn't catch a break and take the points at that stage. Very much sucked....man that's just rough damn luck, glad your better. The elk population thanks you.
I know it's not much comfort, but your alive and well, you live to hunt another day, and I know it sucks, but im trying to shed a little light. Man that's one of my bucketlist hunts too, for a very long time now.Worst part about it was got the Covid results at 6pm the night before Thanksgiving. The hunt started that Friday morning. A lot more than most of us spend in a decade on hunts. If you have the equivalent of a new, small vehicle of cash burning a hole in your pocket then get on the list. You will have a memorable adventure and can later debate if you were the hunter, the shooter or the sniper. Your money, your choice on how frame the experience.About how much are these hunts? I tried the tribe’s website, but what I found was “under construction”.
I knew some guys that hunted it regularly back in the 2000's and it was 20k back then. They showed me some film they took of their hunts and it was amazing and they killed several bulls way over 350.So, are you talking $10k? $25k?
Did you have a White Mountain Apache Reservation tag?I had a rifle tag for that hunt last year but came down with Covid 2 days before the hunt. I spoke to the WMA tribe wildlife biologist last week and he told me they may not have the cow/calf/spike non tribal member self guided hunt this year due to the drought.I’ve only heard the rumored cost of the trophy bull hunts, but if you can afford it why not. Don’t know anyone who has hunted it but there are giants for sure.
If I don’t get draw for elk anywhere, I might be applying for one of the cow hunts as a freezer filler.
