My hunting will be anywhere from white tails, mule deer in open/broken country, antelope, and elk. I am wondering which option to go with. Trying do decide on the power for binos. The binos will be Swarovski or the like.

8x42 with spotter
10x42 with tripod mount.

I just made this decision. I did not like 10x binoculars at all. Too much shake, too small field of view. Really liked the 8x42's. Far more user friendly even standing still, not breathing hard, etc.

I was told that more power isn't necessarily better and I was surprised how little a difference 8-10 made in what I could see but very surprised in how much more difficult the 10's were to use vs. the 8's.

i think swavo 8x42's are the sharpest binos i ever looked thru.

having said that, i would go 10x42 just because mulie like to be very far away :).

i am running 10x50 glass with a tripod. it's like my eyes get to scream "wow!"

I started using 10x42 Zeiss Ht this spring after having used the 8x30 Zeiss for the last 35 yrs. I have had no problems with the 10x, and love them .I still have the 8x, however I will be using the 10x for everything at this point. The 10x are heavier, but I don't notice them being any harder to hold steady.
I guess it is a real individual thing, everyone has to use what is best for them.

I would go with the 10x42 s .....I've been running this option for 10 yrs and seldom have thought about the need for a spotter. My Montana bull last year I spotted over a thousand yards and could easily tell he was a shooter. I will say in this neck of the woods there are not miles and miles of areas of ridges to glass for hours and hours.

That's why I am looking hard at the 10x. At the store 8x was a little clearer, better field of view and brighter. However, with the 10x I probably would gain just enough to drop the scope.
