Dan reyes out of nm came highly recommend by one of my clients last year, he kills some good bulls.

I had a great caribou hunt booked through Cabela's so I wouldn't be afraid to book an elk hunt through them. I have also hunted with Randy Slaughter mentioned earlier and he was a good guy. The second best guided elk hunts that I have ever been on was with Elite Outfitters on public land in south central NM back in 2003. It was some pretty rough terrain and a pack in hunt, but there were a ton of elk around and many really nice elk. The best one I have ever been on was on private in Unit 7 in WY which will take you quite awhile to have enough points to draw. NM is a good option for someone just starting because there isn't a point system and they give preference to guides. Good luck on the search!
