Lot of people hunt, camp, fish outside units that need a tag.
I'd argue the units you need a brown bear tag are the units you don't want to do anything in.
Just looked through the regs, units not requiring a resident locking tag are 12, 13, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26.

Good to know you will never hunt Kodiak (unit 8), or PWS (unit 6), or the Kenai (unit 7 & 15), or any of the South East. On second thought, I agree with you, no one should want to hunt/camp/fish in units that require a resident locking tag for browns.

I did not realize a resident locking tag was not required for most of the state. I certainly will not be spending a few hundred on transportation to avoid spending $25 on a tag though.

I know 17 and 21 didn’t require a kicking tag. At least to my memory. I’m now in the road but don’t really bother with brown bear hunting.

I should look into that locking tag if needed or not.

That’s it. I’ve only hunted in unit 17, 21, and 13. Didn’t need a locking tag.

Imo the units the require a resident locking tag are not worth hunting for things other than brown bear. I could care less about actually hunting brown bear so maybe not that either.

You are correct, I cannot see myself ever hunting those units. I can't remember the last time I even camped in those units. Those are all the way too many people units.

I completely agree. There are no deer, no moose, no goats, no sheep, no wolves, and no black bear in those units. The hiking and camping are horrible and there are also no fish. Everyone should certainly hunt and fish units 16-26 instead. I hear the haul road is great for getting away from people.
