POD Cast
Good, bad or indifferent. I'd like to hold my thoughts to see what others think fist.

I see a lot of audio podcasts out, I'm a visual guy.....much prefer videos to just audio. Would all the youtube videos be considered podcasts?

I like it. I think the west has been starved of having something in the hunting media they can relate too.
Personally it gets super old watching whitetail get whacked over corn from a hunting blind that's bigger than my college apartment.

I like it. At this point there is more content than I can consume in my commutes every week. If I get some serious windshield time on the weekends I can catch up or go back and listen to some that I passed over.

I enjoy watching any videos or outdoor shows that are shot in the West, especially the Rockies, regardless of the game being hunted. The scenery and terrain (when the camera man zooms out) makes me feel like I am back out there chasing Elk.
Sure beats the cane fields and swampland I look at everyday here in Louisiana.

I like it because I live to hunt in the mountains of the West, I live a minimum of 24 hours away, and I get to add to my knowledge and relive my hunts from afar.

I'll tread lightly here...I am not saying you are, but if you are asking from the perspective of a local, is it drawing more non-residents from a distance to hunt "our" game that rightly or wrongly you may or may not perceive everyone should have equal access to, then I would say I am not sure. I grew up wanting to come out West and hunt the vast public lands so for me personally the media and popularization of the adventure hunting lifestyle did not draw me in, the "product" did not the "advertising". But for some I am sure it is, specifically the social media aspect of it because it is just so much damn cooler than whitetail hunting locally.

edit: I'll add to that last part that I did experience an encounter of that anti non-resident sentiment in Idaho but I smiled and went on my way. People seem to have this I was here first, so no one else can enjoy it mentality but the fella sure didn't look Native American so that pretty much negates his viewpoint off the bat. I have had several friends and family take trips out West due to being roped in by the adventure and romanticism of it all only to find out the hills are a little steeper than look on google earth, were overwhelmed by the vastness, scared of grizzlies, etc and they aren't going back. It's pretty safe to say regardless podcasts are not even going to remotely ruin the hunting, and again your first post was pretty vague so I am making some major assumptions that this may have been where that was headed.

Just so you know every one of the gritty bowmen podcast are video as well...I'm a little different in that regard in that I find myself listening to podcasts when I am on the road so I dont watch many of their videos but the ones that I have watched were done very well.

I really like Hunt Talk and Meateater. There are some really good podcasts now that I think dispel the notion of all hunters only shooting for racks, hillbilly/rednecks, lifted trucks, rolling coal, etc. The foodie/locavore hunting interest is a good thing to strengthen and pass on our hunting heritage to future generations. As far as folks back east coming west, I've no problem with that. We are so lucky in the west to live in such great hunting country, why not welcome our fellow countrymen to enjoy it as well? But, if I see any of you in my honey hole, we may have problems....;)

Cool guys, I enjoyed reading your opinion. I've talked to people that love them, hate them and are in between like me. That's why I asked rokslide I'm conflicted my self. And it's not just pod cast, it's western hunting being more commercialized in general the past several years. I benefit from the great information that comes from this material and the fact it's often the best in the business on so many subjects. Although, I did enjoy PC more when they were not so commercialized and seemingly rehearsed.. Sponsorships seem to ruins lot of things. We'll see how it goes?
overall I agree that they often do a good job of showing who hunters really are. I'd like to see more on conservation topics and getting more hunters involved through the power of these pod cast. Pod cast are increasing the numbers of hunters and especially archery hunters in the woods I feel. I think they should doing their part to convince folks to join a organization at the least to preserve and improve what we have especially with more of us.. Gritty bowman and Steve Rinnella have had a few PC on conservation. As far as the motivating people and getting more hunters In the woods Yeah, that's a double edged sword. I guess where my issue is with that is the fact company's , social media, tv shows and now PC often do a good job of making western bow hunting look easy. Bows have for sure made it easier to shoot a bow but I don't think most people appreciate how tuff it is to take a animal. It seems like every tom , dick, Harry, Harry's wife along with every outlaw country singer ( Easton Corbin type) and MMA dude suddenly found it cool to pick up a bow and increase draws odds. I guess most people will go once or twice, realize it a physical and demanding sport and give up? I don't know, I'm a hunter , I've worked super hard and had very little success over the past 10 years. Ask my kids. I think they are convinced I'm the worst hunter ever, I've had many opportunities but no shot. Anyway, back on topic. These pod cast have for sure helped me to hone in on some issues with my gear, trading , tactics etc... So over all I'm for them. BTW pretty much every hunter I've ever met from the east was a great person usually had me laughing my ass off. Come on out. It's big country...

As more and more hunters lose ground in the east to big $ leases.. You will see them more in your neck of the woods.
