What to do in Las Vegas??

The community park at Boulder city usually has Big horn rams resting in the shade.

The drive out to the Hoover Dam isn't bad and it's pretty cool. I go out to Vegas a couple times a year and it wasn't till the last time that I made the trip. If you're a baseball fan there is a place called Big League Dreams that has some replica fields you can play on. Other than that there aren't a whole lot of things to do outdoors. There's also a few gun ranges where you can shoot almost anything for a price. Walking around on Fremont street can be entertaining and fun. There is a craft brewery there called Banger Brewing that is pretty good (living in Denver I have high standards and would say it's average but by far the best I've had in the Southwest).

Red Rock Canyon, you can do as much or as little as you wants. There are a ton of trails, rock climbing, or if you want to just enjoy the view (which is very nice) there is a road that circles the area with different pull out area's. There is also a visitors center with some cool info about the area. Very close to town and a great place to experience some desert landscape.

You need to get down to San Diego.

I don't consider San Diego southwest and if I remember correctly neither does Great American Beer Festival (they're part of the Pacific Region). My brother just took a beercation to SD a couple months ago. There are some really good big ones out there like Stone, Green Flash and Ballast Point (even though they're sellouts). I'm not a hops fan though so I have a hard time finding stuff from any CA breweries that I like as even their mild pales are close to 80IBU.

Over 10 years ago I was there for a show. We had an outfit supply us kayaks and we went down the Colorado River through Black Canyon for 21 miles to a resort where they picked us up. Some sheep on the cliffs. The first 2/3 is really cool with a stop where you can hike to some hot spring pools in a tight canyon. Found out that the topless college girls knew a land route in from the top. That will get your attention when you think you are alone and come around the corner...LOL.

At that time the outfitter had a gate key and dropped us right in the spillway looking straight up at Hoover Dam. Really awesome but I bet with the new security that has probably changed. If you google it I do see tours etc so they are still doing it. Looks like raft trips now which we did not see. It was like $120 for a kayak and a ride back then.

Thanks for all the ideas guys. We decided to rent a car and tour Red Rocks. The lady at the rental car place convinced us to go to the Valley of Fire. She was the nicest little old lady, convincing too! A short hike in the red sand up Mouses Tank trail, and we were snapping photos of hundreds of indian pictographs and petroglyphs. The trail naturally ends at about a 20ft drop into a natural rock bowl that was full of water! An even bigger one was right below it. So apparently Mouse was a indian outlaw, that used the watering hole and the natural "maze" of the surrounding rock formations to hideout in the middle of the desert. It was so cool i mostly forgot about the flu bug i caught the first day there! Thanks again for the input!
