Shooting my new to me Maxxis 35 this afternoon and my wrist strap broke. I've only got a week to figure out what I'm gonna switch to and I'm supposed to be working Sunday, Wednesday and Saturday. Is that enough time to practice with a thumb release? I don't have anything patterned and I'm not sure if my foot plot is coming along ok, just looking at killing a doe and getting some meat in the freezer. With any luck the rut will kick in and I can get a nice buck in November.

It took me a good couple months of shooting to get good with my thumb release at long range. That said if you wanna go shoot a doe out of a stand at 30 yards you should get comfortable pretty fast.

Id get the release. Before you even start shooting targets, shoot blank bales with it for a half a week. After that half a week of shooting at no spots, you should have an idea on where its comfortable to you.

Then adjust your peep and set it up the later half of the week.

That might help with the transition.

Thanks, your DL change at all? Was thinking about adding a kisser button so I can still maintain the same anchor point I have now. Can't imagine that my peep would change much, but we shall see. I like your idea of blind bale shooting, hadn't thought of that.

I would just make your dloop longer or shorter to get the anchor you want. I did change my dl 1/2in but im shooting a carter simple 1, and my dl was a little short to begin with.

Your peep height will most likely change

Lawnboi, thought you'd appreciate this...fifth shot this morning getting a rough group and adjusting my sight after some blind bale shooting.

Nice. Blank bailing is a great tool that I think many overlook. I like to shoot a few shots at a blank target for a warmup to shooting foam. Really helps get your form down

did the strap or the actual release break?

Strap broke, tru fire doesn't warrant the strap, gonna make a new one outta para cord after the season is over, then again, I might just buy another thumb release.

I have 3 wrist straps in my case because they seem to fail in the field (when I take a fall) but I would never make a significant change just before a hunt. Go buy back-ups of the strap you had.
