What scope on Kimber Montana .308?

I have a kimber Montana in .308 that needs a new scope. I’d like something light and holds zero and tracks reliably.

Trijicon and NF are probably at top of my list. I have one of each on different rifles for the fact both brands seem to hold zero reliably.

I use(d) that scope on all of my Kimber Hunters; illuminated green dot and MIL reticle. 13.5 oz for a 40 mm scope that is sturdy—tough to beat.
Exactly. I ditched my talleynlightweights and leupold vx3. I used warne bases which are a bit heavy being steel, I had them ceracoated, then used warne mountain tech rings for the trijicon scope. The setup gained a few ounces but it’s much more durable now.

That’s funny because I currently have a vx3 with talleys on it right now and want to switch for that same reason. And I hate the wire reticle in the leupold. The reticle always seems to be golden colored and drives me nuts

My only complaint with the setup is that the warne bases are steel so they rust if you don’t have them coated.

It’s been a year or two since I was messing with that project so I don’t remember if there is an aluminum base that will work? Perhaps some DNZ rings that would work while also being more durable than the talleys?

I really didn’t want to put a full rail on the gun so my options were sort of limited. In my memory though, DNZ may have had an option, I talked to them once and they said they could cut the connecting bar off them for a small fee, I guess a guy with a grinder or something could do that as well.

I put a Maven RS1.2 on my Hunter, with Warne bases and rings. I don’t find that it’s too heavy. It makes a darned nice setup.

I took a fall last year and the scope hit a rock. Hard enough to gouge the tube. Zero was spot on afterwards.

I’ve got the DNZ Game Reapers—not sure what the bar would weigh; they’re pretty light as is—I want to say 2.5 oz
Have you ever had the bar get in the way of loading/ejecting? Do you happen to have a pic of how the setup all fits together?

I like the setup I have but I’d switch if there was something a bit more simple and possibly lighter.

I have swfa 3-9’s on my Montanas in back country rings. The base hanging over the port annoyed me and I saw where Stick was grinding his back. Kinda like the Talley’s are for NULA’s. Works for me and I have a little more warm and fuzzy feeling than with Talley’s and 3.5-10 Leupold. I should mention I didn’t have any issues with the Talley’s or those particular Leupold’s. Maybe I should have left one setup alone and used my scythe on that rifle….really rolled the dice grin.

Friendly reminder to the gathered kimber fans to rattle Hawkins’ cage regarding their featherweight rings for these things.

I haven't had any problems loading or ejecting; if for some reason I started to, I'd do like you said above— just Dremel the bar out.

Anything with a capped windage, exposed elevation with lock, holds zero, sfp, moderate magnification and decently lightweight? Seems like that is the holy grail
