Nikon Coolpix L32 is a decent little camera that takes AA. It only has a 5x optical zoom (also has more with digital zoom) but it's hard to find more than that with AA operated cameras. For the small size and AA batteries, it's about as good as it gets in my opinion.
The Moffats and Mr. Stid turned me on to the Olympus TG series. I have the TG-3. Does not use batteries like you want, but I have found the battery lasts a long time. I have always brought a spare on my 10 days hunts, but never needed one. Tough, durable, and takes decent pictures. For a light weight tough tool its great. IMO
I'm a big fan of the Olympus tg too. I've had mine several years. It's been duck hunting in freezing temps, diving with sea turtles in Mexico, to the top of peaks during thunderstorms, and in the sandy desert of New Mexico with no problems. Takes pretty good pictures too
