Anyone have a trip out West planned for this year? I'm looking to tag along with a group if possible.

I'm sick of planning for a hunting trip out West and never going. I don't need to have a tag in hand, willing to help haul meat and overall just looking to get experience with a group that drives out each year from the East coast.

not in the cards for me in 2025, I had to spend alot of my annual leave (vacation time) kind of unexpected this year in February when my mom's house was effected by the floods in southern West Virginia. I spent about two weeks down there getting things back in order for her. and that was right on the heels of me going to Montana this past fall on a hunting trip in November.

So needless to say I am gonna have to monitor my leave and build it back up this year (already told the wife we probably wont get to do a week long vacation this summer) and I am going to be very selective in the days off I take for our regular hunting season here in Virginia as well. I may try bowhunting more this year just to tag out early, not sure yet

Why don’t you just grab a tag and go. I hunt alone a lot and it’s the best hunting actually, I really enjoy it. You learn a lot about yourself too.

You are absolutely right, I guess its the fear of the unknown and having only deer hunted out East. I should just man up and go.

I drove to Nebraska from Virginia to hunt deer last year by myself and enjoy hunting alone. I also have been hunting antelope with another person which is also fun. I say go by yourself instead of waiting, you will regret not going the years past. Elk solo is something I don’t think I would do but deer and antelope are fun hunts to me.

That’s what I did when I first started hunting out west. Lived in South Carolina and wanted to go for years but never could find anyone to go with me. Finally said hell with it and started going by myself. The second year I met some local guys while camping back on a mountain alone and they invited me to hunt/camp with them. Been hunting with them for 15 years now and talk to one of them at least once a week. Going at it alone definitely paid off for me.
