Hey guys
Does anyone have good snack food ideas/tips for maintaining weight. You might think its great to loose weight easily but every thing I loose is muscle and I get very cold easily as I have no body fat.
Im 5'10" and 150-155lbs. I used to be about 165lb but cannot keep weight on, I am constantly loosing it.
I guide for roughly 9-10 months of the year(glacier and hunting in NZ and Canada).
I can never keep up with my energy output, I eat as much as I can with out being sick but can hardly keep up.
Any suggestions?
Guys got DIY "power bars" or the like??
Thanks

Sounds like we have similar metabolisms. If that's the case......doesn't matter what you eat, you'll still not gain any weight. People used to tell me "just wait until you're older". Well, I'm 50 and it still doesn't matter what or how much I eat......the only way for me to gain weight is to lift weights. I'll lose 15-20lbs every elk season and it will literally take me the entire next year to get it back without lifting. With lifting, I'll get it back in a month. Last year I was 212 before the season and dropped 19lbs in Sept. Today I'm still only at 204, but will start lifting again soon. But I'm also just a little taller than you.:)

Hey JP

Similar problem here too

I found that converting to a fat/protein based diet rather than sugar/carbs has helped along with weights as suggested by 5milesback.

Cheers,

thanks for the help guys.
my main problem is I walk 8-10hours most days so dont have time/energy or a gym to train heavy. I used to train heavy eat kfc and drink beer and I almost gained weight doing that haha.

I work all day long, and some days I can not stand the thought of hitting the gym, but I seem to always muster up the energy to. Try getting a pre workout like C4 that will give you an immediate energy boost and give you the determination to go to the gym. Eat lots of protein, eggs, chicken breasts, peanuts, almonds.

I sleep in a tent for 150+ days a year, no gym there haha. my problem is I cannot train regardless if I have the energy or not(due to where I live), I dont need to, I am fit, just I am working my body too hard and cannot get the energy intake needed. In canada last season I was eating 4000-4500 calories a day and my weight was pretty stable(really slow gain). was alot of eating though!

When I was in my late 20's I upped my intake to 7-9k calories a day trying to put on weight. After 6 months and a much lighter bank account, I actually weighed LESS than when I started. And I wasn't doing hardly anything fitness wise at the time. At that point I gave up trying with calories. I can maintain weight on 2500-3000 calories for a lot cheaper. Seems as though my metabolism adjusts to whatever I'm doing, so when I take more in it also increases. When I take less in, it decreases.

Man I'm glad I'm not the only one who really struggles to gain weight. 5'8 and 145. The shittiest part is a freeze my ass off at night when backpacking. Gunna get a 10* bag this year and see if that helps haha

I'm in the same boat, after any trip I am pretty much constantly hungry for weeks trying to get weight back on me, at 155 I have very little to lose. This winter I started taking butter with me in the coghlans tubes, already used it for PB. I recently found out about ghee and may be taking that instead and can take it in a water bottle. Add it to oatmeal, coffee, tea and dinner. I feel my biggest issue is weight loss in the field, I lose it quick and have a hard time getting it back. With the butter/ghee I'm now trying to figure out more ways to incorporate it into my meals and snacks, so far the butter has helped but I know I can be taking in a lot more.

I doubt your doc would do it. But they give (or at least used to) AIDS patients anadrol to keep weight on. It's arguably the strongest anabolic steroid there is. However, I don't believe the benefit would outweigh the cost.

There is probably nothing that will work as effectively as the GOMAD (Gallon of Milk a Day) method. That'll add another 2400 calories a day to your diet with 120+ grams of protein and a boat load of saturated fat. Most people cycle on it for 30 days at a time and divide the consumption into 4 or more servings throughout the day.

Listen to this man. Squats, deadlifts, powercleans and SLEEP. You'll gain.
