I’ve got a buddy with a Weatherby Mark V standard six lug, long action. He wants to build on it and have it re-barreled to a 6.5 X .284. Who is THE guy for this?

Randy Selby of Randy's Custom Rifles is the only one I know of whom a friend has sent their Mark V to for a barrel job. He really like his work.

Are you hoping for action work or just a rebarrel? I wouldn't want to mess with trying to true up the interrupted cut nightmare....but the rebarrel part is 101 stuff for any good smith.

Ps, I have one in a brown pounder stock that is chambered in 7-300 weatherby and that stock is what they should have come with.

Rich Reilly at Hi Tech Custom rifles in Colorado Springs rebarreled my Mark V. It was a .340 Wby, and I had it rebarreled with a Lilja stainless barrel (in addition to bedding, painting stock, and cerakote). Shoots 3/4 inch groups at 100 yards with my load of 225 Barnes TTSX using RL19 powder.

I did not have Kevin build my rifle from scratch. My rifle is a Weatherby Super Big Game rifle in 30-06. Originally had the rifle re-barreled by "Hammonds Rifles" in Montana who also did nice work. I had Kevin at Weaver Rifles shim firing pin and cut, thread barrel for Hawkins 3 port muzzle break. Picked up my rifle yesterday and was impressed by his work. He seemed very knowledgable with the Weatherby rifles.

Thank you all for the suggestions. Primarily the rebarrel, and perhaps some basics like stock bedding and inletting as he wants to upgrade the stock. Hopefully it won’t need much action truing beyond the receiver and bolt faces maybe, I know the lugs can present a challenge.

Not sure if the work has been completed, but Aaron Roberts did what you are describing for me. The rifle turned out great.
