Washington Moose Tag - Selected

After drawing my OIL Bighorn tag last year, I repeted with an Any Moose Kettle Range-East Okanogan tag this year! It took 42years of applications for the ram and only slightly less for this one, so yes Virginia, lighting does strike twice in the same place! The new EXO 5500 should get a workout this year.

Thanks guys and for the offer Scott. The more I think about how big they are, the more I wonder what this typically solo hunter got himself into! :)

Don't do it solo man, you'd be flat out selfish if you didn't at least offer Travis and I to tag along, since one of us will likely die without having ever drawn the tag ourselves! We should talk about dates and when/what you're thinking so we can make plans to go with you and help get your bull out. By the way, the unit you drew for was also my first choice.

After watching you guys' backsides disappearing up the ridge trail ahead of me with twice the load, I can definitely say you'd be out-packing me! I guess I can put you guys on the short list.....:)
It was actually my second choice, but if it was your first, you must have a little intel for me, huh??? Location, location, location!!!

Congrats back at you Gurr. I haven't had the opportunity to be on a moose hunt before, but I'm sure it'll be a fun time this fall!

For sure! What are the dates of your hunt? Both seasons (since they split up a bunch of the hunts) can be great! I loved october because you could call multiple bulls a day in, but in november when the leaves fell, you could spot more moose from vantage points.. either way, you are definitely in for a great time!!

Very Cool!

I hunt whitetails in that area. The number of Moose has really increased over the last decade or so. It should be an excellent hunt.

Good Luck!

Congrats on the draw. Been a couple years since i have been over there. But have seen some nice bulls up by white mountain. And on the road from lake ellen to sherman pass.

Dave,
Sorry but I can't be too much help.

I used to spend a week every gun season just west of the Kettle crest from about 2003-2008. I hadn't been back since I switched to archery but last year I drew a multi season tag so I had a great excuse to hang in gun camp for a week.

Previously I never saw much moose sign but I saw a ton of rubs and tracks last year and even one lonely wandering cow. Both a neighbor and a rancher mentioned that the moose have really moved in. I've got a really cool pic of a buck, elk and moose rub on the same tree. Pretty cool!

Good Luck!

I hope you slay a big one. I will be hunting moose just south of you in Nov.
Can't wait to read your story and look at the picks.

Best of luck to you! You deserve the tag after that many years of applying. It took me 33 years to draw a mountain goat tag here in Montana, and I just put in my 37 years straight for moose and sheep this year and didn't get either one of those again. I guess I have a couple years to wait!
