Congratulations guys ! Just think Littlebuf , now that wolves are really getting established according to tipntails7 and others due to compensatory predation blah blah blah...you will be swimming in elk and deer tags in no time. Tipsntails7 is going to explain it all any day now on the hug a wolf thread.

18 quality elk points , not selected.....again

No kidding, I didnt draw a single thing, neither did my brother, my dad or my hunting partner. A guy in elk camp drew any bull and cow tag though. In seven years lve only drawn a multiseason deer once and second deer last year. This washington draw is a joke. I almost wish we had idaho rules where theres no oreference points, at least then I wouldnt feel so frustrated when I dont get anything. I did buy an idaho license this year so maybe ill get over there for that branch antlered elk I cant seem to get drawn for here

Branch bulls are over the counter here to bud. You just gotta know where to look for um. I like Washingtons draw system. Basically the fairest way you can have a weighted draw

I dont hunt the wet side for elk, hate that you have to choose side and weapon choice. And I dont know how fair the "weighted" draw is. This is my friends second time being drawn for a cow tag and I still havent got one in that same time. Also hearing about guys with 18 points not drawing, I hear about guys with 10+ points not drawing anupything frequently. This "preference points" reminds me an awful lot ofvwhen I joined the Air Force and they told me I got fill out a "dream sheet" of assignments. Then they sat me down infront of a computer from the 80's to maje my selections and I knew it was a joke im sure the computer didnt even save my selections. I choose any European base, know what I got basic training-Texas, tech school-Texas, duty station you guessed it Texas. Feels just like the washington draw. Ill probably never learn my lesson and keep donating

I wish you had to pick a side and weapon for deer too.Quality of hunting would go up across the board . Hell I wish you had to choose high hunt as a option too. That would cut down on all the " back country" Internet hunters and make that hunt great again

Your problem is that you simply don't know what your talking about.

Wolves have always been in Wa and have been established for a decade now with between 7 and 10 packs. In that time quality tags are either up or steady.

When I started putting in for moose 8 yrs ago it was an ~20 year wait for about 30 tags statewide. There's now about 80 tags statewide and the average is about ten yrs. there are four new tags this year on USAF survivor training land.

Several elk units went from one bull tag to five last year. From what I've seen the state should have increased those tags a couple of years ago.

Mule deer tags are about the same but they seem to be nearing the upper end of their normal cycle. Success rates on these quality hunts are very high 80-90% with a few at 100%. And there's just enough ligit bombers to keep us putting in year after year.

I'm not going to argue that this is because of wolves because it's not. Major wildfires, good snowpack and beautiful springs are probably most responsible. I'm also not going to argue that every thing is hunky dorry as there are a few herds in the tank but all in all with or without a quality tag there is plenty of quality hunts for those who are willing to put in the effort of a Rockslider.

Every year I go into the scouting/hunting season certain I'll see my first wolf as I spend much of my time within one drainage of a couple of known packs. But I'll wait until I actually see a wolf before I start crying wolf!

Your not gunna get the time off work any way :)

It won't be much of a hunt (my wife made me promise to kill an elk for the freezer).......something I can take care of in a day within 20 minutes of my house.
That being said, if it doesn't go as expected (like I actually have to hike from the truck), I sure as he'll want to convince some other sucker to help me carry it.
