I know the “which magnification” topic has been asked a million times. But I keep finding my self split in the middle(I read countless posts). Currently I have a Burris veracity 4-20 and I think it’s too much scope for the tikka lite 308. But most of my shooting will be 600 and under. So I want to make sure I get the right scope. I don’t care about steel. But then again I’m not harvesting whopper deer. So keep that in mind. I also will be hunting out west. I just want to know if I spot a deer cross canyon at 600 yards. The fire dot won’t be covering his whole body. But I also don’t want to breathe and lose the damn deer in the sight picture like my 4-20.

Any help would be appreciated!

For me I can pick up details pretty well at 500 on 10x. If I was shooting that far on an animal I would probably go with the higher power though. Heres the thing, if 15 is too much just turn it down to 13 or 12. I cant imagine I would worry about losing 2x to 3x especially when you gain that much on top.

3-15 on my tikka 6.5 and love it. Very light scope so not much to lose going with 3-15

You know your current scope can be used lower than 20x, it's ffp so you can still use your windage marks at any power.

I know. But it’s pretty damn big and heavy. Definitely doesn’t feel balanced on this tikka lite.

Even the 2-10x in the Vx-5 is still bulky. In my opinion, you should give the Vx-3i's another look if you're looking for a slimmed down but still great scope. To the magnification question, I think if the 308 suits your needs wonderfully, so will a 10x-max scope.

I picked a a 3 x15 this year. It is a great scope and not bulky at all. It’s amazing how much more accurate I am at longer distances than I was with the max 10 I have always used

I went with the 3-15x44 this year for my 30-06. I couldn't get any grouping at 400yrds with my leupold VXR 4-12x50 and started to buy another rifle but got this scope as a "last ditch" effort. MOA at 400 yrds and hitting steel at 600 yrds solid. You'll like it.
