Anybody had any issues buying used OnX chips? Downsides?

Tony, use the search feature on this forum with terms "GPS" and GAIA....looking for threads on the subject. Its been discussed a lot.

GAIA is an app for your phone that turns it into a powerful GPS unit with very good built in maps.
Its like $30 a yr now. Yes, it works without cell towers...

Tricks to using it; run your phone in Airplane mode- I've had battery go 4-5 days that way [I've used in Alaska and other remote hunt areas- flawless]

You have to load the map of the area you are going into that don't have a cell signal ahead of time [easy to do]- assuming you are using the map feature. My iPhone 7+ screen kills any GPS screen on the market. I know guys that use GAIA on the tablets too- awesome clarity.

About the only downside to GAIA isn't the app but your phone; its not built as robustly as some of the dedicated GPS units.

Lots of savvy guys here were onto the GAIA thing early.
