I am looking to upgrade my GPS unit from a Garmin Rhino 530 to something a little newer. I am not too sure what to look at. I have looked at the Dakota 20, 62s, Oregon 650, and the rhinos. I like the radio feature but honestly, I think I used it twice. What is everyone using?

Just bought a 62s

Literally comes in the mail tomorrow so I won't be much help.. After days of research that's what I ended up with.. They are pretty cheap too, think I got it from GPSCity for $199 shipped?

Well I couldn't resist the REI $250 special on the 62stc.
Not much of a GPS guy as there are usually two directions in the country I hunt.... up or down, and they're pretty easy to keep straight. After upgrading from a B&W eTrex to the 62stc, I feel like I'm overwhelmed. Now I just have to figure out how to load more detailed maps on it. One thing I do like about the 62 is it only takes TWO regular AA batteries, just like my old eTrex. And my old eTrex ran for days on the same two batteries. Can't stand specialized re-chargeable battery packs when it comes to ele tronic tools. AA's I can rob/swap from other devices. I have a rule about devices all using the same batteries. Didn't like the Rino's for that very reason and the AA pack for it was ENOURMOUS.
I do wish the 62stc had a bigger screen though. My eyes are getting old and I have a hard time reading maps on a small screen. But like I said the price was right.

Ive had the 60csx since they first came out in 07. Excellent unit. When the 62 series came out I looked at upgrading but to the new model. But on research it didnt do much more than my original 60 series. Looking at the spec's on the new 64 series I still don't see much reason to upgrade. Really pleased with how my Garmin 60csx has performed over the years. One sd card has the backroads and I also carry one with Ibycus on it as well.

Just curious but what is the main diff between the 64 & 62 series?

Probably newer firm ware, think there are some added features and it connects to both US and Russian satts. That said I went with a rhino 650, for some reason the weather station sold me plus my hunting buddy has one. Only time will tell if it was worth it.

I went with the 650 Rino as well. It is great when You are not hunting alone. You can Text, Poll to find the location of your guys and the radio gets used after dark on occasion.

Thanks guys for the responses. I will take a look at those. I am just sick of the "huge" battery pack on my Rhino. I am passing it to my dad, as he does not do many backpack trips.
