Went into Idaho unit 67 for a high country mule deer archery hunt and packed in about 5 miles to some basins. Spent 3 days before season scouting and located 3 nice bucks. The day before season started, despite our efforts, a bear came into camp and destroyed our tent and our water storage. Due to the lack of water in this unit we are unable to continue in the backcountry for the remainder of our time. So long story short we are looking just to simply fill our nonresident tags with a whitetail or mule deer, even if its a doe. Today we glassed lots of BLM and forest ground with very very few deer seen. Is there a unit in SE Idaho someone can point us toward that is a target rich environment? Again not looking for a big deer at this point just want to bring back some meat for the freezer. Its an unfortunate deal. I would be more than willing to share the locations of the nice bucks we found in the high country cause we don't care to ever return (we have been told nuisance bears are dumped at the location we are at and we also came across two camp sites that had tore up tents as well, we assume its a black bear that has been around a camp a few times. I'm sure its was due to the fact we had seen the bear near camp 2 days in a row.) Any help would be great just want to end this trip with something to show beside a tore up tent and gear.

That sucks man. Id help you out but we are a few states over. Good luck though.

Wow, that's unfortunate. I could be wrong here, but can you shoot a bear with a deer tag in Idaho? Isn't there something about using your tag for an "equivalent" animal.

Yes we can shoot a bear on a deer tag. No doubt if opportunity presented itself itself I'd shoot the little bastard.

67 is the only place I've had problems with bears as well. Had one pull my gear out of my tent a few years ago, and had one come into camp while scouting a few weeks ago (my dog chased the bear off). These were black bears.

Want to thank everyone for there input and help. Unfortunately to make matters worse a family member is in the ICU and had to leave. In hind sight, Im sort of glad the hunt ended so Incan be with family at this time. Family is important. I'll get back out there (maybe not 67 but somewhere else) and kill one someday. I do have permission on some ground in north central Arkansas with bear on it. AR has a season, maybe I will take revenge on the bear cousin....

Your tag is still good for the rest of the year on many other general season hunts including rifle, I know you may not have the time or extra money to travel back out here but just thought I'd remind you of that.
