Unknown Munitions, Hawkins, Area419, APA st brakes

Anything remarkable good/bad about these? Easy to time, comes loose, poorly machined, is kryptonite to recoil, etc.

This is a secondary rifle that is already threaded and our only unbraked rifle.

- Area 419 hellfire
- APA lil bastard

5/8x24 6.5prc
It is under 6lbs with pic rail and empty mag
It is a 22" barrel

I'm 50/50 on a brake, but if it's a yes, want it soon so I can zero etc.

I just picked up the "Hellfire Match" version for the ease of timing and return to POI after removal/reinstallation.

I’ve shot the APA LB on several rifles. Easy to time. Good reduction in recoil and muzzle rise. Really helps keep the sight pic on target. Mine is a Gen 3 with top ports. I’ve ended up with all the plugs out except two on the right side. No experience with the others. I don’t shoot the brake much anymore. Suppressed 100% of the time if I can. In fact, last time I hunted somewhere I couldn’t use a suppressor, I went bare muzzle instead of putting the brake on.

I've tested the TI Pro 3 and 4 and the Ultradyne LR for my 7 mm mag. The Ultradyne was the best but weighs 8.3 oz and is 3.5" long. I opted for the TI Pro 4. Felt the best, light weight and I think 2.4" and 1.7 oz. I' shooting a Bergara Wilderness Ridge at 10.2 lb all set up. Makes a world of difference in recoil. I can shoot all day with no issues!!!!! The only issue is the cost of the ammo....lol.

Just be aware you will need good hearing protection.

We run around with our electronic muffs and ear plugs and are perfectly fine turning down shots where we can't get them on.

The ti pro felt the best in terms of recoil reduction?

Yes the TI Pro4 for recoil reduction. The Ultradyne LR provided great recoil reduction and a bit less muzzle rise due to the top ports at the end, but not enough for me to really see my shots. They both provided great recoil reduction. The extra weight of the Ultradyne made it a bit out of balance. It was a toss up but I liked the TI better for overall length and weight. Just a note the TI 3 also did a good job on recoil. I'll use that on a smaller cal gun. I could have lived with the Ultradyne and/or the TI 3 but the engineer on my shoulder convinced me to try all 3 out. He said it was just $$...lol.

The fit and finish on the TI and Ultradyne were both very good. Both were easy to install with the timing nut. I had taken them off so many times to test I could have one set back up in under a minute!

I sold my 300 win to a friend, it was a Browning Max Long Range and had the Browning recoil Hawg. I'm going to give him the Untradyne as that is a heavier gun and a slightly larger barrel. I think the Ultradyne will work better on it.

The Ti's, Utradyne and Browning recoil Hawg all were better than the stock radial breaks.

I felt the TI's and Ultradyne were both better than the Hawg. The Hawg is a 3 port.

Funny story, last year in Craig during a bull elk hunt my son shot an elk at 662 yards, 1 shot drop! Same gun as mine with a 3 port brake, don't know the brand. It was all on video and after the shot the guide said man is that gun loud.....lol.

The brake on his gun is straight out the side. The TI's and Ultradyne are angled back toward the shooter.

Yes, we have three Weatherby factory radial brakes, and one Hawkins with side only ports. There's a definite increase in pressure for that side port guy if you aren't the shooter.

Did you try the two port?

I may need to find out from the what "port plus" is for that version.

My Seekins element 6.5 prc has the area 419 hellfire on it. I love it. Not a single issue with timing or it coming loose.

Just looks huge in a thin barrel

Of the three brands I’d buy another hellfire match. It’s a big heavy guy though.

I didn’t care for timing the apa, and if I’m already using a brake I want more than the tank offers, although their timing system is great.

The hellfire match seems to do what it set out to, limit some blast and control vertical muzzle rise. I hate cleaning the thing though.

Just recently put a 4 port self timing TI PRO on my 6.5 prc. Reduced recoil well, but to be honest, not as much as I'd thought. Could be because the rifle is a seekins havak and fairly light as it is. It's probably one of the best on the market, and I don't think other brakes would do better. I would buy another.

What do mean by more than the Hawkins does?

Hawkins has straight ports that do a good job of minimizing blast at the shooter but don’t do as good of a job as an angled port such as on the rest of them.

Personally if I’m shooting a brake, I’m already doubled up on ear pro, and prepared to deal with the blast, so may as well use something with angled ports.

Quite pleased with the TI pro 4 in a similar rifle to what you mentioned.

6.5 Sherman Max w/ 22" barrel weighing around 6.5 lbs bare. TI pro makes it pleasant with stout loads.

The self timer is a breeze as well on that brake.
