Just curious if anyone here has hunted unit 68 in idaho for rifle mule deer? If so what should someone expect for terrain and deer population? The harvest rate is decent and it is close to my house but I have never hunted desert before and I am not sure what to expect. Any advice would be appreciated!

Boots on the ground will be your best bet if you live close to your unit. People have family and jobs yet scouting is totally manageable, if you don’t believe so ask Robby Denning. Head out for 2 days 1 night one weekend soon, repeat, and you’ll start to get it figured out. Good luck this season!

Try adding to the full time job, wife and four kids..... 2500 miles!

I get to the area that I plan on hunting a few days early and spend every daylight minute in the field. Every year I add new info to my notebook and next year I have a much better idea of where I'm going and what I'll be facing. Well that was until the nasty winter there in Idaho in '17 and again this past winter so I'm scrambling once again to figure out where I'm going to be come October.

Good luck.

There is really good whitetail in the northern 1/3 of idaho. Just saying, the mule deer could use a break, and we have very good whitetail populations.
I'm considering this myself as I really want to chase mule deer in central but that's going to be expensive and I live in a prime whitetail area. Probably be doing both and odds are I will be tagging a whitetail.

I know man. Seriously. Well I’ll tell you- as I’ve been through the desert. Yes- I’ve been through the desert in a horse with no name and IME in the desert, you can’t remember your name.

Otherwise, pretty thirsty place so bring an Aquafina with, and some sunscreen, and maybe one of those hats like the French foreign legion.
