Western Mountaineering. Hands down. Buy once, cry once. What temp rating?

I guess a 20 or 30 degree bag would be suffice. Mainly going to use it for chasing elk in September in Colorado. I have been looking at Western, Feathered Friends, and Enlightened Equipment.

They've got several in that temp range that are under 2lbs, some right around 1lb

My big issue is I need something with some room in it, I don't want a mummy style bag. I'm not sure these semi-rec bags are big enough in the foot box for me.

I would call Feathered Friends and discus wHat you are looking for. I understand that they are really good about customizing a bag to fit your needs. Personally, I would go with a 20 degree bag for Colorado. Pretty broad temp range. If I wanted something lighter for above 30 degrees, I would go with a quilt and save the weight. You can't go wrong with any of the companies listed. They make quality stuff.

I too am partial to my western mountaineering bag. I don't like feeling smothered, so I went with the badger. It'll be about the last piece of gear I sell.

Good grief, how much room in the foot box do you need? I would look at the Sycamore with 46" foot box, 25 deg, a true 25 degree rating, or the Terralite with 41" foot box. Both of those bags are 2lbs or less and plenty of room. You have to remember, any excess space you have is just dead space in the bag you have to heat up. WM is conservative with their bag ratings, their 30 degree bags will most likely be warmer than many companies 15-20 deg bags.

Here you go. Should be more than enough room.

Yeah I’d concur on the terralite. I hate mummy’s but replaced my quilt with that. It’s solid, crazy wide, and it isn’t a brick.

Since I’m pretty sure it won’t be available in a few months when I’ll be ready to buy one, there’s one on eBay for 350 right now.

You made a great choice. That bag will suit your need perfectly. It's hard to really tell how great a bag they make until you lay hands on it. You'll understand once you get it.
