Searched a bunch on the websites and now ready to build the trophy room. We have decided to build a four care garage to house our two cars razor mower and tractor. I will build up stairs. The room will have twelve foot ceilings (building with scissor trusses to make a cathedral ceiling), dimensions will be 48x30. And will have a double French door facing south (no direct sunlight). I will have plenty of lighting and walks will be covered in plywood then Sheetrock. I am going to have a half bath and bar area. I will also build a room for gun storage and reloading. The floor will be carpet with four feet of hardwood on the perimeter to allow for pedestal mounts. I am wondering for anyone that has built one is there anything you wish you had gone different or any suggestions.

I don't have any advice to give you but it sounds like an awesome project. It would be cool to see some before, during, and after pictures of it.

My only comment would be to consider making it a bit taller. I don't know what type of mounts you'll be putting in, but if it's something like elk, moose or caribou with tall horns, they might be a bit low with 12' ceiling.

I wish I could go higher on the side walls. On the ends with the scissor trusses my peak will be around 17'. Any higher and I need to have permits. At this height I get to avoid them and inspections

Can you go up on ceiling height? My ceiling is 12' scissor truss and even on the gable end I can't hang any of my Elk.

17' peak height with 12' sidewalls is plenty high I would think.
Be cool if you shared pics start to finish.👍

We should break ground in the near future. I am doing all the work myself. With the help of friends when needed. This is going to take awhile so I guess that is the only benefit to not drawing any tags

Make sure to put backers in between the studs , so you can hang mounts wherever you want and are not always having to find a stud.

yep your walls need to be 1/2 or better 3/4 inch plywood behind sheet rock to the top, makes all the difference when hanging

Sounds like a great build... Someday I'll have one! As for know I just have dead animals all over the house, the wife doesn't complain too much though I've noticed since she's been pregnant more and more have found their way into the extra bedroom, haha.

Luckily my wife hints as well and likes taxidermy. But we need to convert the garage t a bedroom and this was my opportunity to get the garage I have always wanted and might as well add the second story

I built the same thing but 3 car and it is 40 x 28. the game room is 28x28 then a bath and office, where I am setting at my desk now. Be sure and build a fire proof gun vault , heavy steel studs and 2 layers of 9/16 blaster board. I have the counter tops to do and it's done after 16 years. I did dig deep when I started and put a wood shop under the concrete that holds the cars. Doubles as a concrete bunker.I'll start a thread, custom game rooms and post some photos.
