Tripod Mount for Swarovski ELs?

Just upgraded to a pair of Swarovski ELs a couple weeks ago and I was disappointed to find out that they don't have the usual 1/4" threaded hole for a tripod mount that most binos have. I looked online and found out that Swarovski makes a "universal" tripod mount for them, but they get $100+ for them, which is more than I wanted to spend for one as I don't use it THAT often.

Anyone found anything else that works for them? Any off-brands out there?

I can't for the life of me figure out why Swaro didn't include a 1/4-20 adapter? I guess there aren't many guys using 10x or less binos on tripods but Roksliders do! Maybe well lobby them for an EL "Rokslide" Edition.

When the outdoorsman's has their stud installed, it is not threaded either. They send them up north here in Az to a machine shop, and they press out the hinge pin and replace the hinge pin with one that has the adapter added to the end of it. I was told that there is not enough room to in the pin to make it threaded so it can accept any adapter. The outdoorsman is the way to go for sure.

Although I haven't used it, it looks as though it would fall directly into the not going to work very well category. I'd be scared shitless to move my tripod with that attached.

It doesnt look like it would grasp a pair of porro prism binoculars very well, but I would think it would clamp onto a pair of roof prisms pretty well.

I have a pair of Swarovski 10x42 EL and I've bought and used both the Swarovski brand adapter, and the Outdoorsman brand. The Swarovski looks flimsy for the price, but it is designed like it should be and that is pivot in the center of the binos. The Outdoorsmans are strong, maybe faster to install, remove from the tripod, but the designer must have never set and glassed for Coues very long. Since they drill into the hinge mechanism on the objective lens end, that becomes the pivot point. This creates a longer radius to the eyecup, which creates more head, neck, and body lean to scan the same depth of field compared to an adapter that pivots in the center of the binos. Obviously, the longer the binos, the more head movement. If they had designed the vertical piece of the adapter in a slanted, Z shape, it would have moved the pivot point more to the center and would be a lot more ergonomically friendly.

I use the swaro strap bino mount. Works pretty good. The outdoorsman would be nice but I have the strap so that's how it goes!

Interesting info on Outdoorsmans solution. How long were you without your binoculars?

Not long, they have a machine shop that does it same one who makes their tripods, pan heads. I think they pick up and drop off every Thursday.

So about 2 weeks with shipping both ways if I remember.

I recently picked up the swaro version, so far I like it, though haven't used it much yet. I liked the looks of the outdoorsmans setup but wasn't excited about changing the pin in the hinge, which is a very critical part of the binocular (critical to alignment and durability), I've not heard of any issues with it and have been very impressed with outdoorsmans other products, but it still worries me.

Outdoorsmans also makes an objective ring clamp that looks like it would work ok, designed for leicas, but think if you ask, will also work on any 42mm obj.

Swaro guarantees the binocs with the Outdoorsman's stud. It may actually be a better hinge pin that the stock Swaro pin. Just got my EL Ranges back from Swaro USA (had to go to Austria) for a free yearly check up covered under warranty. I had the Outdoorsman's stud installed before I even received the unit. Can see a good pic of my setup back on post #5.

They drill and tap your binos?! Wow.

Pretty innovative.

I was told the ring clamp only works w the Geovids. Not sure
