Picked up a super tarp from the classifies and need to source some trekking poles for it. What poles are you running?

I’ve used the Cascade Mountain tech poles a few seasons.

Trekking poles seem like the kind of thing that you can spend a ton for very minute improvements in weight and quality, but these poles were $50 when I bought them, and have lasted so far. And the weight specs are about the same as $230 sets of poles.

I don’t use them much for hiking, so my current plan to lighten things further is to just use tarp pitches that don’t need poles. If there are plenty of trees around, that’s not generally a problem. Saves me a pound to do that and leave the poles in the truck.

I used Lekis with my Supertarp when using poles for hiking, but sticks work just fine too if you aren't already bringing poles.

At the time I used my Black Diamond adjustable ski poles. I now use the Cascade ones that I use with my quick sticks. Like others are saying in the summer I’ll use just sticks to get it up higher if I want more ventilation.

I think the Argali carbon poles are worth every penny. Being able to screw them together at the top to make a center pole for a teepee is great. And the locking mechanism is much better than the Black Diamond.

I’ve had the Cascade tech ones. They are chincy and loud. Unless you are limited by budget, I wouldn’t get them.

Black Diamond carbon cork (swap out the end for rubber). Cork on your hands cuts down on sweaty palms.

I got cascade mountain tech carbon fiber poles from Costco for around $35. I haven’t used anything other than them, but I have a hard time seeing how any could be a hundred dollars better (maybe the argali ones if you’re using some of their special features).

I’ve put a lot of weight on them and used them to pitch a tent a lot and they’ve done just fine.
