On behalf of every first responder In the region, thank god. You would not believe how many people jacked themselves up looking for it.

I’m a little sad that it was found. I was hoping it wouldn’t be found in my lifetime.

Why did people get jacked up looking for it? Why was it more dangerous than other outdoor recreation?

It brought a different kind of person to the woods, and had them going into places they never would have normally gone. No one was looking for treasure on trails, they were climbing around on unstable cliffs and buying Walmart rafts to float across rivers. For a while it generated a lot of weird calls, at least in my neck of the woods, granted I am near Santa Fe.

I'm still pessimistic about it, I could see it going either way, which was part of the draw to it, but unless the guy comes forward with it and tells the story I'll probably doubt whether it was a real thing or not. I thought I read somewhere that he was getting sued by treasure hunters. Unless someone actually comes forward with it its always going to be in the back of my mind that it was a convenient time for someone to"find" it and end the search because I'm sure it had become a PITA once he started getting sued. I hope I'm proven wrong, because its a great story and idea, but after reading his book I wasn't convinced enough to buy the 2nd book.

How awesome, and wild ..... I've never heard if any of this until last night someone on here replied to a thread from 2018 when the fourth person died, so I read a bunch on here about it.

I turn on my news tonight and, missing treasure has been found! Lol

The strange thing is all these people like you described above seemed to ignore the fact that it was placed in a spot where a 79 year old could walk to fairly easily.
