Are there any products out there that would provide reimbursement for guide fees, pilot fees, possibly purchased gear should a hunting trip be canceled due to illness, terrorism, death, hotel fees, trophy transport deposit, etc? If so, anybody have a good recommendation?

Also, what about coverage for life flight / out of network medical coverage for accident in field?

Will be in SW Alaska first half of Sept. Already have insurance on commercial flights.

Took my first cruise a few year back and just googled trip insurance. Did a little reading bought what I thought was the best coverage. One I bought covered medical care, med flights, late or lost flights. Around $200.00
This year went on a second cruise woke one morning to find we were parked just off the coast of Jamaica. Somebody on the ship had a medical emergency and they had to get them off the ship. Word on the boat was the Jamaicans didn’t want to treat them because they wouldn't get paid. So the Jamaican Navy or Coast Guard, came out got this person, the medical staff and too them to land and then an ambulance took them to the airport and this person was flown back to the U.S. I can only imagine what that cost.

Way I look at it, if I can afford a cruise, the drink package (highly recommended) and other costs, I can afford trip insurance.

I used ripcord for my upcoming NW territories hunt. I've never utilized their services before but they were recommended by a friend. I personally just got coverage for medical expenses and export if necessary but they did have an option for full coverage. I'd prob discuss with my outfitter ahead of time though as most would prob work with you if needed.

Hopefully someone can help you with your first question, I cannot.

I spent years traveling to most villages across Alaska for work. All of my research pointed towards life med Alaska for backcountry insurance. It's only $50/year for the whole family. They have a pretty good website with a good amount of info to check out that should answer any questions you have. I called the trooper office before my wife did a mountain goat hunt at 34 weeks pregnant and had a great talk about what would happen if we needed emergency help. She basically said Coast Guard, National Guard, or Life Med is coming depending on the situation. So Coast Guard might do some sort of technical backcountry extraction and fly you to a nearby village or somewhere Life Med can land if it's a medical emergency. CG flight is covered by your taxes, Life Med insurance covers you from then on. Make sure to add that you have Life Med (or whatever other) insurance into your inreach trip notes. The dispatch person will be able to access all of that info and she told me they look for it.

That's obviously an Alaska-specific answer. Maybe there is something else worth looking into if you think you would need similar insurance in other places. I'll edit to add that Life Med AK may be included under some sort of umbrella for companies like ripcord. Worth looking into if you think you'd like overreaching insurance for other places.
